head removal on classic mini

Can anyone advise, my brother has a 1000cc classic mini with a blown head gasket. The head is very much stuck on and I've been told one way is to turn the over and let the pressure pop it off?
Is this advisable or will it do more damage?

No. Do not do this. I presume everything has been taken apart and all that is there is the head and the studs? Then you need a rubber mallet and give it a few good smacks (not too hard, mind) around the head and just continue to do this until the head gives. Do NOT under any circumstances try to lever it off. You will damage the mating surfaces of both the head and the block.
