Tbh the MK7.5 with it behind the badge doesn't need calibration very often... Unless the front end has been off...

Hmmn!

I dont know whether that's good or bad news!?

May be "good" news in that it can be "re-set" via diagnostics ?, or "bad" news if its something worse and more expensive?!

No it can be realigned, but what I'm saying is that maybe someone has dismantled the front end of the car... Ie crash repair

Ah OK!

I see what you mean, Ive not had the car long, drives great, just annoying with the fault lights lit up!

I think Im "hoping" it needs re aligning/calibrating ...as maybe that would be the easiest/quickest/cheapest! fix.

I drove it home for about 4 hours, then drove it for a fair few weeks, then out of the blue, as Im driving the damn  fault lights came up!!

Quick "update"! on this..

i was away for a couple of weeks, got back last week. Ive contacted VW , to see if there are any software updates, re. front assist, they said to contact local dealer...i contacted 2, neither replied!

I did take the badge off, to see if there was anything "obvious"....there wasn't! Upshot is, Ive today booked it into a VW Indy specialist.............only trouble is....it isn't until June 1st!

From looking online, it seems as if it may need re calibrating? It appears its quite a common...ish! problem. It can need re calibrating (the radar sensor I assume that is!)  for a variety of reasons?

I hope it can get sorted, and it does'nt cost too much!

Will report back (next Month!) with the results!

One reason for recalibrating is after a wheel realignment.
it would need to be major re alignment adjustments to make the acc not work. General wheel alignment doesn't require the acc to be recalibrated.

Cheers for that..So are you saying its not likely to be a calibration issue?

I guess it could be a number of things! Im hoping its a cheap and easy fix lol!

If not under warranty, ask Vw how much a calibration is ?
I heard over £300. If true, there are companies that come to you with the equipment. I think we paid £180 at work a couple of months ago. If you are near to Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, I can give you the companies details

Last Year I asked VW how much alignment and a re calibration was and they quoted £289+VAT so I went over to Mr Tyre 100yds away and they told me they do it for £69 including re calibration and they also said the dealer gets them to do the job for them as well.

The car hasn't been lowered has it?

Does/can that affect it? I have had mine lowered 25mm front and rear and 50k+ miles later still no issues. I have heard that messing with the front bumper when having it re-sprayed or removed etc, can cause problems and someone had a serious accident because of a repair job and didn't re-calibrate it - insurance didn't pay out. My local painter who has been around for years and is the best in the area said he wouldn't touch my front bumper, but would do the bonnet and the arches based on my own safety. He advised me to go to VW to have the bumper done and get a re-calibration certificate, but VW painters are crap.

Of course lowering will effect it.... its a precision piece of kit placed at an exact height from the road surface.

You also can run into problems if you have a towbar fitted.

As promised!

An update!  Well today was the day.I took it to "get it sorted".

Result is...job done! Basically it needed a clean? The badge that is! Ive read online, that for sensors radar etc. to work properly, obviously a clear view is essential. My cars are never really that dirty anyway, I did though. of course, wash wipe clean the outside of the VW badge on the bonnet, behind which sits the radar sensor thingy.

It turns out? The inside of the badge needs to be cleaned too! It was news to me, (some on here may already know this).

I was sent a video of what was carried out etc, and the tolerances of the calibration etc....bit like rocket science to the dummy writing this report to be honest!

He said there are 2 calibrations? (or something like that!) one was withing tolerance, the other wasnt. He said  for them to need re calibration, usually needs something to have happened to the car eg. lowering, bumps etc etc (as has been already suggested on here...many thanks all!),

End result was, the inside of the badge was cleaned. Put back through diagnostics etc. Then taken out for a test run, with laptop attached etc. to see all was well,(was shown the front assist in operation with the A.C.C  all working fine)....Thankfully it was!

Oh, it also showed it needed a new battery for the key too!  A few other minor historic faults, which were all cleared etc.

I was well happy, good price I thought too. I used a specialist VAG garage....was very impressed with them.

They gave me a printout of the "numbers"! etc of the front assist/ACC etc...As I say, it was all over my head! Im just well chuffed its all fine now!

Many thanks to all who gave me advice on this thread.
