Low Battery Car dead!
« on: 20 October 2021, 11:35 »
Morning.

Got in the car this morning, would'nt start. Just a click. Low Battery warning flashed on the screen. I left it a while, tried again and again eventually it started to turn over. 4th attempt it started. I'm guessing a new battery is needed. My question is, when its changed is there anything that needs to be reset. I ask because when I got it going all sorts of warnings came up. No ACC, Stop start deactivated, cornering lights not working and a few others I can't remember. I'm worried this will not be a swap for new and also concerened it will negate my Revo Stage 1. Can anybody put my mind to rest before the deed is done.

Cheers

The new battery will need coding, best get a AGM battery to replace the EFB as they have better cranking power and can handle deep cycling.

When you put the new battery on the dash will light up like a Christmas tree but they will go out after a short drive.

I have the battery below and it has been fantastic.

Thank you. Just had my lunch in the car. It laboured on start up but cranked ok. I'll give my garage a ring to order the battery.

Just be prepared for it not to start suddenly and keep a jump starter handy as when mine went it only gave a days warning then absolutely nothing.

also concerened it will negate my Revo Stage 1.

that doesn't happen with the mk7 ECUs, only older MED9 as found in Mk5 GTI etc.

I've a wee jump pack similar to this one it's brilliant, I had to use it last night as my mk5 battery is dead as well despite being on a trickle charger. I've used it on lots of things up to a 4L V8 diesel and a 4L V8 petrol, much handier than jump leads.

A mate of mine let me borrow his Halfords jump pack when my GTD battery was on its way out.

Brilliant bit of kit, saved me anyway. Think he said it was about £80. He uses it on his classic cars so definitely had his moneys worth.

In the end it was a new battery. I thought it might have been AGM as suggested but according to the specialist it should be an EFB and that is now fitted. Spent a while coding it before pick up. Just one error remains, corner light not working. Well it is. I've checked when dark. Can I fix this error using OBD11.?

EFB is standard OEM fitment, AGM is the upgraded one that are superior in cold cranking power.

As said above, I think you should've swapped to the AGM for a little upgrade
