Title: Clubsport
Post by: Verve34 on 17 July 2021, 08:45
So finally decided to make the plunge and swap my  7.5gti pp for a mk 8 Clubsport , picking it up on Tue/weds  next week. I’ve got some gloss black Pretoria’s from my my 7.5. What’s everyone’s opinion on colour for a dolphin grey car..? I’m thinking perhaps change to shadow chrome or maybe even satin

Congrats!
Shadow chrome floats my boat on that score

Thanks. I really fancy shadow chrome as well think it should look good on a dolphin grey clubby

The black is fine as is, but shadow chrome would also work👍

Any options other than paint? Keep the gloss black I think.

Gloss Black will look awesome against the dark grey dolphin and make the red accents pop even more. You know it’s mandatory to post photos after a question like that once the wheels are on

Yeah, good old gloss black will indeed work well especially if the wheels aren’t covered in light scratches like black wheels are prone to suffering.
Kind of depends on whether they could do with a refurb or not really. If yes then maybe try another finish such as shadow, if not then keep them as they are.

Love the car mate and the wheels look spot on against the grey.

Quick question on the wireless charger. What issue were you having for them to take a look at it? I have an issue that others have mention in the forum in that my phone gets boiling hot and it hardly puts any charge on it. To be honest I have stopped using it and plug it into the USC port.

It does mate. Thank you. Mine hasn’t stopped charging yet but surely it shouldn’t be making the phone get so hot.

Wireless charging making it hot is common across not just the mk8. It gets even worse if you are running nav from the phone on aa/acp. Can even get so hot the phone shuts down.

It's probably a useless piece of tech. Plug it in...

Many of Volkswizard's CS faults are mirroring what I've seen on here, unfortunately he doesn't seem to have a positive message at the end.

At a second attempt I watched the Volkswizard vid earlier (fell asleep first time round!).

Mine doesn’t seem to suffer quite the same issues as Andrew’s generally but the rear parking sensors do play up on occasion if I’ve had the rear of the car parked in the shade. Strange but true.
To be honest I’ve never tried using either the nav or cruise control in seven months of ownership as I’ve had no use for it, so mine could be buggy as buggery and I’d be none the wiser.

My interior was initially rattle free but lately a few have materialised.
One in the door panel when it’s hot outside, and more recently an irritating rattle from somewhere around the dash pod or driver’s side lower air vent. Drives me nuts. I’ll get that looked at when it has its first service or if it needs going in for something else beforehand.

But I didn’t buy the car for its electric gimmicks, so I don’t take too much issue with the buttonless buttons (having said that, the UI is substandard and also having watched Tom Ford review/preview the Polestar Precept, that’s the sort of interior and UI we should be getting in this day and age of carbon neutrality attempts). I do quite like the minimalist Mk8 dashboard architecture but it’s how it actually drives that bowls me over.
For a factory standard chassis in a humble Golf this thing handles amazingly well, and the engine pulls impressively too. I was pretty sceptical prior to taking delivery of it but it really delivers the goods.
It’s a superb driving tool.
I love mine.
Short of a lottery win I can’t think of anything else I’d rather own right now.

So update on problems
Cars booked in for another update in 2 weeks also been told to fix keyless entry problem they will need to replace handle so will need car for 2 days in case it needs to go to bodyshop they are also going to look at the rattle/noise again. I’ve had the car 2 weeks today it’s had 2 updates already and a third on the way it’s spending more time at VW than with me

I think mine needs the door handle antenna unit replacing too.

It unlocks most of the time from a rear approach but not from the front or side...

Has it been confirmed that the unlock on approach should work from anything other than the rear? I've no real issues with my CS but it only unlocks from the rear or if I'm literally reaching for the handle of approaching from the side.

Thanks Fred. I'll check mine again but I think mine does actually unlock in the right position. I was probably approaching at an angle from the front side when I noticed it not unlocking until I reached for the handle. Makes sense now.

I'll have to test mine again actually.

Maybe I am not quite close enough to the driver's door - I sort of expected it to unlock from maybe a metre away, when actually I need to be trying for the door handle.

I never really thought about it before.

I guess the CS guys have had a peek at this?

An early DIY oil change for the CS giving all of the things needed.

WoW the new oil is just like water, I'm sure some will have their opinions on that, seems quite a task to find the right kind to buy even at the this stage.

Not sure about the change to the sump, is that an improvement or is it needed for a special reason?

That's what I thought and seemingly quite a big difference from the 5w-30 that we've been used to for years in VW's, lets hope 504 is easy to find as it looks many of the main sources don't even stock it/make it.

Our Tiguan takes an even newer spec of VW508, 0W-20, which is really thin & weird looking stuff - almost like washing up liquid in colour (some sort of dye additive, apparently!)

That’s interesting about the colour additive phope, thanks for posting up the photo.
I’m guessing the colour additive is some sort of preventative measure to dissuade children and fluffy pets from having a few glugs of it(?)

The thinness reminds me of some of the (snake oil low friction) additives we’d chuck in the oil of modified cars years and years ago when oil was much thicker. At least thick oil didn’t weep through the gaskets too badly on our ageing cars back then!

With super-tight manufacturing tolerances nowadays, and things like stop-start and turbos requiring very fast circulation of oil on start up the thin oils are probably a necessity but it’s still surprising to see exactly how thin they actually are.

The green colour is added to the Professional versions of Castrol Edge, both professional and regular Edge are exactly the same in formulation just one has florescent dye added.

Even the 7.5 GTi's could use 0w-20 but that was an emissions thing so the cars to get a better MPG, I don't know if any UK dealers are pulling in 0w-20 at an oil service.

Would be very interested to know the technical details of why 0w-30 is used considering all are based on the same EA888 engine.
