As the subject says really, 'where you from?'
Im from Cleeve, a little town between Bristol and Weston Night-mare (Weston Super-mare)!
Cleeve has got a pub, a post office, and a few houses owned by wee-smelling coffin dodgers.

I live in Greenock, its about 20 miles west of Glasgow situated on the river Clyde. Not a bad wee town got a great football team Greenock Morton FC. not a bad dub scene either with your usual 8 n 16v mk 2s a couple of mk3 vr6 and a mk2 vr6.

A good road in my area is prob Cheddar Gorge. (yes its where Cheddar Cheese is from)
You cant get much speed on it but it scares the willies out of me cause its so twisty! Especially at night when you can nail it down there in between cliffs, woodlands, then a bloody wild goat or deer is standing in the road!!! :shocked:

maybe not in chichester itself but lots in bognor etc, you should get your ass along to the sussex meet, last sunday of the month just outside worthing. the bognor boys almost always turn up with their sweet golfs.

And although it's only about 3/4 mile through all the twisties I can honestly say I held an Escort Cossie from getting past me all that time in my Mk2! I was racing a mate in another mk2 going back to his house from TSR in town so we were full of it when this Cossie appeared outta nowhere!! lmao! God I love that road! :laugh:

Sunny Basildon, just down the road from the birthplace of Chavism - Southend -on-Sea (By the way I ain't no Chav, you can tell cos I got a decent motor) This place is crawling Water Cooled Dubs and they look down at us golfs :angry:
Theres plenty of Golfs around her but most them keep themselves to themselves. I pop down the seafront occassionally for cruise, theres always a massive turnout with a few Golfs from outof town. Don't know his name but theres a guy from Guildford with a lovely original MK1 1600 gti if anyone recognises the description let me know.
Other than that Baz is about the closest in Rochester, and his right thats full of bloody Chavs aswell.
Anyone want meet up PM me - lonely V dub fan, looking for friendship (must be interested in dubs).

After much sulking by the mrs :sad:, i spent 5 hours and 4 trains going from Wrexham to Bewdley in the back of christ knows where for my 16v!!!

So we have Gibby who lives in the same city as me (Bradford), Han who lives about 40 miles away in York and monzablue16v about 15 miles in Huddersfield.... not too bad although there seem to be a lot more darn sarth/up north (scotland).

Another Northerner here. Live in a small sleepy place called Great Ayton which is in the area of middlesbrough. Not many dubs really althought you do see the odd one here and there. Apparently there is a meet nearby every 1st monday of the month but i have no idea where?

Ha I am at teesside uni and blatantly refuse to leave my car anywhere apart from the cctv ridden, security guard patrolled union car park! I tried to leave it on a backstreet once but the site of a gang of so called 'chavs' made me give in and go and move it!
Saw a lovely slammed corrado with a 'Section5' sticker in the car park on monday... Made my car look even taller than usual! lol
And if you find a vw meeting anywhere close let me know, my mate and i will bring our mk2s. We have been up to the meet in durham on sundays in the summer but the vw showing was pretty poo. About 5 of maybe 200 were vw's. very nice mk1 but that was all that stood out - well other than the travesty of a mk3 with an awful bodykit! :grin:

I live in Preston mate, I too am often in good old Lancaster! For quite a nice place there is a surprising baout of chavs, that all park up in their plastic crap clad escorts and corsa's etc out side liquid!

Thank you for welcoming. :smiley: There are 3 Golfs there actually. The blue one in Mk3 Variant VR6. The Mk2 is the only GTi 16V in Thailand so it's very hard to find experienced mechanics. I've learned so much from this forum. In fact, I'm trying to get my hand on ISV controller from the UK (it's not available here).

It will get a fresh coat of paint in March. I still have idle and high oil temp problem to solve. My mk1 is '74 LS spec with 1.5L auto' transmission built in Aug '74!

Hi Micky Here from Derry city in N, Ireland, best known for all the negatives of the last 30 years, the car scene in this town is fantastic with lots of modified cars from Mk1 GTi's, Clippers to bog standard 1.3Mk2's there is also quite a number of clubs now running, currently a proud owner of a P reg Mk3 TDI 5 door, debadged, twin smoked hella's at front with fogs, rear boot spoiler by irschmer with front debadged grill sitting on a set of 16" Momo sports, interior is bog standard with an alloy gear know and a Panasonic FX88 headunit with 6 disc changer, my 2nd car was purchased last week and is a standard Vw Golf Gti 16V on an E reg, i am keeping this to do a full restore, hopefully get some pictures on soon
Oh and how could i forget to give Keith Barber a mention at www.thornhillautos.com probably one of the most knowledgeable on the VW scene over the last 50+ years and holds nearly anthing you cherish for your beloved Dub.

Right Im origionally from the east coast of norfolk, a little village called horsey, about 10 miles south of Cromer. I moved to Norwich last year, then in a crazy moment of uncertainty, decided to accept a job, and moved to Guernsey! I left my long term girlfriend behind (we are still together mind) an ok job, a house and all my family having never even seen this place before!
Been here 3 1/2 months now tho and have settled in fairly well. Got a lovely flat with fantastic sea views, right next to the golf course i play and work at. And im makin regular trips back to the motherland whenever i can, to see the family, play in tournaments and hopefully visit a few more shows than last year!
Sure u didnt eed the life story but what the hell, iv typed it now so youv got it!

Cool bro thanks for the welcome, acually the VW scene around Southern California isn't that big. it's mostly air cooled, i don't see too many watercooled VW's rolling around, it's mainly asian imports (Hondas,Toyotas,mazdas,nissans, ect....) i'm starting to realize how expencive VW's are i need a fuel pump right now i priced it , it's $300.00 dollars! compared to $65.00 Dollars on my honda. I still love the DUB though.

Monzamonster, allright me ole mucker I dont think theres that much going on down ear but I do go up to castle coomb on the track and show days. I'd be interested to see if many on here go there for the VW/Audi days and I know this year there doing a Euro fest as well as Jap fest so that should be a good un. I live in Kelso. It's in the Scottish Borders. We're about 50 miles from Edinburgh. It's a nice enough town. It's very popular with tourists which makes Kelso a nicer place in the summer. The streets are cobbled which is bad news for my car. Your heart will sink when you first take your new car through the town and it shakes itself to pieces. It's got all the usual stuff you'd expect in a medium sized town.

Looks like a lot of work going into the mk2 in your sig! And yes, a driver's seat from a UK car will go straight into yours allowing you to have height adjust on your passenger side :wink:

just getting into the golf mk 2 scene
have previously been a rice rocket owner
got my golf as i can actually take it apart and work on it myself!
currently have a mark 2 8valve 3 door helios blue paid £80 for it
just fitted a set of mk3 front seats and will be ripping the rest apart as will be a track day car
a mate of mine has advised me of the modifications to do including a 2.0 bottom end conversion
does anyone know the exact parts i need to do this.

Hi guys,
I'm 22 and I drive a MK2 GTi 8V, and I'm on the fence whether or not to buy a Civic Type R or MK2 16v, and as seeing as I've never had a chance to sit in either or had someone take me round the block, I was wondering if anybody would be kind enough to take me out in theirs so I can put my mind at rest!

Hi. I've just put in a deposit on a 1992 Mk2 GTI 16v in Manila, the Philippines, so might just be the furthest from Britain of anyone posting yet.
I am from Sheffield originally though.
Golfs are very rare here, I've yet to see one driving around, though there are apparently about a hundred in the country, mainly imported 2nd hand from Germany. The guy I am buying mine from has 3 others (2 mk2s and a mk1) and is buying a mk3 for some reason.
This will be mine in 2 or 3 weeks, just enough time for him to put the stock wheels back on instead of the silly oversized alloys that don't fit the wheel arches. :rolleyes:

Hi i'm Vince from the french Riviera, and own a 85 MK2 GTI 5 doors, which is 100% stock and has runned until now 169k kilometers ( about 103K miles ).
It works very nicely and i have lot of pleasure to drive it every week end as a hobby car.

See the vintage Alpine audio, which was installed in 1985 !
It is now replaced by an actual SD/MP3 audio and new carpets have also taken place instead of these on the pic :tongue:
