I think I kinda get what your talking about, the easiest way to do it would be to disconect the drive shafts from the gearbox, undo the gearbox mount and the rear engine mount and the front engine mount without toutching the subframes and lift the engine and box out together (dis connect your gear linkage too and clutch cable ect ect ect obv). Then undo whatever you want subframe wise  I have only ever taken out a vr engine so that involved removing the gear box as its super heavy block but same principles apply

Ok cool cause i was told to just undo the subframe and just drop everything out on it, wheel it off and just do the same with the other then just put it back in?

Ah ok I see, so rather than lift you wanna pull? So your slam panel is off and everything? In that case yer just do your rear mounting bolts and the 6 on the subframe and wheel her out

to do 20vt it is easyest to remove the frount pannel and drop the subframe imo.  as it dosent take long to do and just makes accses so much easyer for the multitude of small taks that have to be done as well.
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Get off the facking internet then and get outside. Also take lots of pics and do a project thread

EDIT, Removed the bumper on mine today and realised that its the outer two bolts you need to remove, then your engine is only held in by the inner smaller single bolt. Now I remember why it was so scarey
