Carried out a thorough check of the cabriolet in preparation for its MOT having been garaged since 2004.
Everything seems fine. All I can find to do for the MOT is a steering track rod end where the rubber has perished and one of the rear wheel bearings.

Fingers crossed I will have her back on the road for the beginning of May

I suppose it will do nothing but rain all summer now...............

That's a bit of luck. Might need some fresh petrol in there too. So we know who to blame if we get a wet summer anyway!

my rule was 'if you have to open a window then the roof comes down"

also driving in snow with the roof down is awesome :)

I can't wait to be using it again. Just going out to the garage now to see whether I can remove the ball joint and save having to buy the whole tie rod and then I'll order the parts.

I was going to try this company:  http://www.vwspares.co.uk/

Anyone used them before? Their prices seem very reasonable. I've always used GSF up until now but for online ordering they look to be the better option.

Good point about the fuel, it did start and run OK but that fuel is old and will need topping up with some fresh stuff. About 1/4 of a tank left so filling it up should sort that one out

..........or suggestions for a better company to use if anyone has a better option.

I'll be ordering some parts for the Mk4 whilst I am at it.

I still do a lot of customer car servicing but for that I have a Halfords trade car and I don't really want to use Halfords for the cabriolet

have you tried crazyquiffs? 2nd hand spares but he's been really good for bits on the cheap, like when i needed a new metering head for the cab they sorted me out and posted the same day :)

i've got no suggestions for anything thats practical for the mk1 and mk4!
We have a halfords trade card and they are ok if you're stuck for parts and need a 'make do' measure and the card is uber discount :)
