TCR - First MoT etc
« on: 30 December 2023, 11:37 »
Hi All,
Hope you had an enjoyable Christmas. TCR becomes 3yrs old in a couple of weeks, so first mot is due & VW warranty expires. Thinking of buying the VW ‘All-in Service Plan’, which will give me a further 2yrs warranty + 2 services & 2 MOT’s.
Not too worried about the mot as it has just turned 14k miles and have had no problems since buying it from new.
I would have it serviced by main dealer to comply with warranty. However, any brake parts etc that need replacing I would have done by my friend, who is VW trained and use the OEM parts, which I believe would also comply with the conditions of the warranty.
I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions from you, who may have done the same or not.
Wishing you all a Very Happy & Healthy New Year. Chas

I used a local independent the month my VW 3 year warranty expired, never considered an extended warranty (aka insurance policy). 2 years later still happy.

Thanks Adam. I know it is a gamble, that’s why I’m looking for advice/peoples thoughts. If I do go ahead with the extended warranty & want to sell the car in 18 months time, it will help with 6 months warranty left on the car.

Any parts that weren't fitted via a franchised dealer, I'd be working on the basis that they aren't covered by the warranty.

Regardless of them being genuine VW parts, if there is no record of VW having fitted them then VW will argue they are not covered.

Individual decisions, your’s sounds a well looked after car so fingers crossed, little to worry about.

I would get the all-in if it was my car.  I very much doubt whether getting brakes done by a friend will affect an engine, gearbox, waterpump problem which is why I'd be getting the warranty etc..  I have the all-in on my Ed40 CS which will be 7 years old in March (owned from new, under 7k miles) so I won't be able to renew it, unfortunately.

Nice car by the way, I do like a TCR!

It’s usually on sale as a Black Friday deal, so during November. I maybe wrong but I can’t remember VW offering a discounted / sale price at any other time during the year.

I've had £3k of warranty work carried out under the All-In plan so for me it has paid for itself. Unlike the extended warranty it is also transferable to a new owner provided you pay the balance.

Even at the non-discounted price it is great value.

I'm sure there is something about the third party person fitting OEM parts has to be VAT registered for the warrantee to remain intact (?) - Volkswizard has a load of YT videos on what you need to do to comply when he services his own cars.
