Disc and pad costs
« on: 19 October 2022, 08:50 »
I've got MOT and service coming up and I'm expecting VW to advise at least rear discs and pads if not front as well. Pricing at VW is over £1000 for both - does anybody know what the going rate is at kwik fit or similar? Do they usually use OEM parts or would they use bosch or something? Wouldn't normally go somewhere like that but for something as isolated as brakes I'd be tempted if it was significantly cheaper.

Find a decent Independent garage and  get then to use OEM parts and you will save £500 or more. Main Stealer prices are extortionate they wanted £289 just to check my alignment. I literally went next door to MrTyre who did it for me for £49 then told me they do the ones for the VW garage as well.

Find a decent independant, i would think Kwik Fit would source there parts from the local factors theyve got screwed down on price which means any makes really.

The trouble is with aftermarket pads its a one pad compound fits all kind of thing, whereas a genuine VW pad will be tailored to that individual application, differing compounds between the different models - a 1.5TSi pad will be different to a TDi, to a GTi, to an R ??

Also who'd let Kwit Fit, Formula Fcukup, etc loose on there pride and joy??

I wouldn't trust Kwik Fit to fix a wheelbarrow.

Local VAG Specialist is the place to go, not a local independent.

I usually do my own brakes.

Not too difficult and saves some money to spend on other car bits.

I was in the same situation, sourced the parts myself online and went to a local mechanic for the fitting.

I have just had front pads and discs changed 7.5 gti performance yesterday at vw dealer inc  brake fluid change at 500 inc vat got offered this at few different dealers with some negotiation some wanted over 800!!

For ref thou front oem pads are on back order atm hardley any dealers got them.

Also the discs and pads for my car are exactly the same as a skoda VRS 245 and was offered the same 500 all in price at a skoda dealer too.

Amazing how they reduce or match the price when you tell them what another dealer will do it for.

Do the same with my Servicing too.

Don't take it to Kwik fit.
