Title: Locking Wheel Bolts
Post by: safw91 on 14 May 2021, 15:19
Hi folks,

Bought a MK5 GTI recently and it didn't come with the security key for the locking wheel bolts. Went to my local dealer and they no longer sell them but will replace the bolts for £80. Trying to avoid spending that. I found a security key on ebay for £8 but it doesn't fit. Possible that those on mine are not original, I guess.

I've searched online for replacement locking bolts but I can't seem to find ones that I'm 100% sure will fit. No reference to Mk5 GTI and the dimensions don't match those I've found for non-locking bolts.

Can anyone advise where to find the right ones?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

There are unfortunately (but at the same time understandable) tools available to remove locking wheel bolts. Probably best to check out those options rather than guessing with other keys.

Could you post a picture of the locking wheel nut, as there are different lock type variations on VW's. If we know they are OEM, get yourself down to a scrap yard and they should have a master box of all kinds of bolt keys might pay £20 for it.
