Title: Direct Line - £47 Cancellation charge
Post by: Guy on 30 July 2013, 21:10
rang to cancel my policy on the van today - was quoted for insurance on the mk1 - was too much and not suitable

wanted to cancel my policy and just walk - they want £47 just as a admin charge for that pleasure!!

haven't cancelled yet but will do tomorrow - any [sensible] suggestions on how to avoid getting stung by this cancellation charge would be much appreciated.

Is the charge not as described for the policy you are cancelling?

The most I'd expect to pay for an administration charge is about £25, that's just a blatant arse raping.

State the charge is unreasonable and without justification of the £47 you will not pay. Also mention you will be complaining to the Financial Ombudsman. They will soon wave the £47 rather than pay the £450+ the company has to pay to the FOS.

Octagon charge £50 as do lots of insurance companies these days, seems a complete rip off in some respects but I fail to see anyway out of it.

Even the threat to take them to the FoS will make them wave the fee. At least its worked for me with Admiral twice.
