Week 2:

Reminder of how my car looks at moment:

The New Lump:

And all the other bits:

Then my VW guy came round, and he really helped clear a few things up, told me I needed the following:

Cable Neck/Shifter
2x Engine Side Mounts
Cat + Downpipe
20v Gearbox
Side Blocks
2 Driveshafts (mine are not suitable)
ECU (you'l see why later in pics)
20v Clutch
Twin Front fans
Brakes
MAF Sensor
Airbox

Its was big list but had got alot of stuff to get rid off, this is what else he said

Firstly both those two boxes I have are uselss:

One Box Is From A Mk3:

One Box Is From A Mk2:

My ECU is f**ked that I initially had, looks like it has been toasted on a camp fire :?

He said he has the engine mounts needed which fit in this part on either side of the engine:

He said the main bit of loom that needs taking out is this 16v Golf/Polo Loom which I have the 20v replacement for:

To get to the ECU, this bit must be taken off and the above loom just comes straight out and unplugs from the ECU
(http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/7620/dffdyw2.jpg)

And then this plus in instead:

Then he said we need to take off heatsheild (part a) and take out the part b as it is not needed as its different for the 20v gearbox that will be going in:

My sounds waiting for boot build to be done (this weekend), please note new badgless grille and spoiler fresh from spray shop 8)

Had To Take Out 16valve Loom, replace with 20v and get ecu out of here:

Then got bored whilst Mechanical people werent there so deceided to take car apart

Had a light out on my heater system so had to take the whole unit out to get to the bulb/led that wasnt working  :D
(http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/3112/heater3sj1.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

Look at how many bits there are to take out and check the led that I had to change after all of the effort of taking my dash out basically

How my driveway looks every Saturday, my garage looks like a VW spares place at the moment (http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/drivewayinuse.jpg)

Week 3:

f**k have I been a busy boy!!

Nobody would split the car loom from the engine loom and vw wanted 480 just for the engine loom so obv f**k that.

My CNM Vagspares guy really came through for me and reminded me that I needed a clutch still. So without further ado he said I think your engine looks a bit rusty (see third pic) and a bit mistreated so what you think about this;

Confused?

Well basically he swapped my orginal 1.8t engine for a AUM engine (newer, better than my orginal ARZ engine and out of an audi if im not mistaken) that he could give me a three month guarantee on, rather then pluggin original one in, it not working and me be f**ked! It already has a clutch bolted on as well as the complete engine loom  (already plugged in, just needed pluggin into ECU - see below pic) He charged me £200 for doing this swap, for the clutch and the perfect loom I think this was defo worth it as a clutch on its own would have cost me about 125 plus the cost of the loom (if I could find it).

I never thought a engine loom in one piece would make me orgasm, well all I can say is you learn something new everyday

He also said that he thought the previous engine had already been tried to be used in a conversion and disgarded because (lemme get this right) where the belt goes round there was my air con or some bit missing (see part labelled 'a' and see part 'b' on the new engine you can see the extra canister)

There is one thing missing from the above picture??? Oh yeah my paperwieght 1.4 engine!!

So to summarise I got two engines, one which is going in and one which he is taking away after the new one is in that way he said any bits that break or are missing we can steal from the orginal engine

This week im going to send off ECU to DNA Tuning to get the immobiliser defeated, but he said if we get the engine and bits in we can still turn the key and it will just tick over (ie: see if it all works)

Almost there ladies and gents :D

Right, since getting bullied into updating my project page by Rhyso (lol) I am going to blitz you with an update.

In the post above I said "next time I see her she'l be 210 brake" - I couldnt have been more wrong, here is what has been going on:

I was in need of a mounting bracket for the gear selector and because it came out of an audi the actual bracket was wrong that I had, so I searched hi and low and found one after a week as from VW they were on back order

The bracket was dropped to Vinesh and now it turned out that I need an AUM ECU and corresponding loom to go with it as the one I was planning two use was from my initial AGU engine! Had a search about for ages and couldnt find one until I got a link off edition 38 for a guy that makes loom and just happened to have my ECU too!

Meanwhile I went a bit crazy on the buying of extra bits:

coilovers arrived:

(http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9263/image000qp5.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

Next was a rs2 bumper from ebay that I picked up for £50
(http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/a3/bb/d296_1.JPG)

Then the seats arrived, I bought a new air filter, twinpipe backbox, dvd player, etc, here is the famous pic as most of you mk4 ppl will have seen!

Managed to score a 4motion rear valance which is going to be smoothed into the main bumper and painted, then got offered a forge splitter valve for £80 so snapped that up:

I was just waiting on the new ECU and loom to turn up, which it did within a few days:

I then proceeded to send the ECU to my tuner guy who defeated the immobiliser and did a new map which included my cold air feed and forge splitter valve and whats even better was that the map was for my new AUM engine with the KO3s turbo, so it was mapped to about 225 instead of the max 210 on the agu :D

Rang Eutotek everyday and he finally said he had received all the bits he needs to finish the car, that was a thursday, rang him on the monday and he had fell off a ladder and f**ked his shoulder up!

Right that takes us to weekend before last!

On friday night I got paid for my 18" a8 rims and once i get paid this weekend Il be purchasing a set of these in 18's when wallet permits!

weekend just gone I did a mission up to the garage to see my car, it had been started on, needed to pick up my standard golf bumper so i could part exchange it for these beauties! Had to drive almost to southampton to get them but the price I got these genuine vw parts for I couldnt miss out on them

They have been dropped into the spray shop this morning for a lick of black paint, then the plan is to pick them up on the way to getting the car, fitting them and driving home! Purchased a nice power inverter, slim line ps2 and strut brace for the wagon today too!

I know its taken ages but as far as I can see so far, its gonna be proper worth it :D

Hopefully it'l be ready and roadlegal for southend, but it will defo be done for Brand meet end of this month, want everybody to come over and admire it!

Cheers

Ash!

LOL @ being done for southend & the brands meet!

Have had sh!tloads of problems!

After threatening to basically kill the guy who has got my car he finally sent me some correspondance about my car.... doesnt seem good though!

"1. the gear selector and cables are way too short from the 1.8t .. am thinking that cables are specific and may require selector from another model..looking at this
2. possibly need oil level sensor for sump as yours is damaged ..about £65 new"

I managed to get the selector but it turns out that the actual selector tower doesnt fit due to it being an audi lump pre 2002) sp had to order some audi bits from VW in dartford. I needed the selector tower for the linkages to connect onto. This is made up by about 30 pieces all together. They took three weeks from germany, picked them up two weeks ago dropped them up to the car. Being worked on at the moment.

Bought a few more little treats too, r32 front splitter and a nice blue silicone hose set too.

----------------------------------------------

Another little update for anybody that is interested in the project I wish I never started

Me being me, I have purchased a few more goodies:

Cupra R Front Splitter which fits a r32 front perfectly and will protect the bumper from crackin against speed bumps and alike because its gonna be low because I got a new arb so i can lower it anything up to 110mm 8)

FMIC - only a little one, but got it off ebay for £115 brand new and delivered with piping and connectors so cant complain. Will be purchasing a bigger one when wallet allows:

(http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1320/dsc00778xh1.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

(http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/5414/dsc00777jt8.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

Anyway, as you could probably assume I was getting the raging hump with the amount of time this has taken and then deceided to give Eurotek a piece of my mind. After having an amazingly aggressive rant Vinesh offered to fit loads of my extra parts for free as it has taken so long, which suits me fine because I dont want my car off the road again after having a taste. I wanted to make sure he actually still had my car and that it hadnt been made into scrap metal so I rang up my mate and loaded his polo up with the FMIC, drivers seat, coilovers, strut brace and a few other goodies and we made our way over there.

My car has been moved into a new temporary unit as Vin had a few problems with the unit he was meant to be moving into at the beginning of this month so it took us ages to find it and thats one of the main reasons it has taken so long but we found it and i saw my money pit in the flesh at last after 3 months and as you can see from the pics I dropped him all the pieces that he is now fitting for free.

(http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8192/dsc00786ub5.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

Now this is the part that was an absolute touch; my mates car who I went up there with has a polo, which a few panels are still in primer which turned out to be a blessing in disguise as some guy from the same unit poked his head out the window and said "where u getting that sprayed mate?" and then a little lightbulb flashed in my head. Went over and had a chat with him and got a quote for the following; smooth vw badge from rear, smooth rear bumper, blend 4motion splitter to rear bumper, get vw badge semi circle recess out of the bonnet (badgless grille), paint wing mirror mounts, get the pitted texture out of the side strips and spray them - £350. And when we were there he was sprayin a bettle in tvr flip paint and the guys work looks the nuts. So basically when I pick the car up it doenst have to have any paintwork done on it or do I have to fit extra parts. He said he will work on the sides and rear whilst the engine is being done so it will all be done when i pick it.

You may be aski about the front, but I picked up the side skirts and front bumper from my guy in bexleyheath last night. He turned them from blue to black, fixed a tiny crack on the underside of the bumper also took out the bottom recess for the badge, and smoothed it out:

(http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/2125/dsc00804ah2.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

(http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7154/dsc00807cs8.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

So as you can see alot has been going on behind the scenes and I hope to have it on the road before christmas!

2020

Right though I would update you guys with whats happened, had some major developments with the car. Its running!! But of course it being me there were some problems when they went to get it moving, they went to move it and then saw that I had put the temporary driveshaft bolts in from when the car was on my drive. They told me that I had to get the M10 bolts and the locking plates, I though sweet that cant be that difficult and it turned out that I couldnt buy the locking plates from anywhere without buying new driveshafts   I had a call about for a couple of days and found a place in Sevenoaks and they sold me the bolts and locking plates for £30 - bosh!

The next day I went up to the car to deliver these bits and see my baby! I went up there and the first thing they said was "fancy seeing it runnin?" I was like hell yeah! I got a quick vid too - it sounds like a tractor as the exhaust wasnt attached and the wind noise is where the intercooler pipes, etc werent plumbed in:

CLICKY - Wagon Running! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfeNIVOwMmA)

They proceeded to tell me that the engine was fine and that I was due a bit of good news (your telling me!) I also had a look at the bodywork being done and as already mentioned in another thread the rear has been smoothed, my dirty scratch down the drivers side has been sorted, the vw badge indent on the bonnett has been filled in and a few other bits - but no primer/paint has been done yet as Readd (the sprayer) is waiting for the mechanics to take the car out properly and test her out then move into the booth so he can finish it off! This is how she looks at present, looks quite sad tbh!

So I left there happy, after seeing everything start to come together!

That takes us up to monday when the garage phoned me up and was like your missing a section of your exhaust to which I of course thought FFS  (The section is shown below)

I phoned around like a thingy again and nobody would split this bit and I already have the rest so though you know what lets have a look for a cat back system. And thats when I came across this system.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MqM2ASRV_qc

I just though f**k it and bought a full non resonant Milltek cat back system, so flames are gonna be popping once I fit the decat! Its a 3" bore all the way through instead of the standard 2.5" which I have got on there at the moment 8)

Intercooler has been hung but not piped up yet. The car has been put back together now, including headlights, slam panel, the lot.

Need spraying to be done and to fit the front bumper and side skirts and then bosh I pick it up

Right, picked the car up sunday week ago and got it back but when I picked it up I couldnt go above 50 mph. My mate came over the next day with VAGcom and turns out the engine has got 13 faults! (GREAT!)

We managed to narrow them down to 2 now, and hopefully will be sorting them out this weekend. Apparently my n249 sensor isnt working properly and basically after a slight tinker the car is working better but it wont boost at all.

Anyway im going to get a few more pics up and some more progress up as and when just thought id put a few pics up of it. Still got to do so much, coilovers, sideskirts, new rear lights, take out rear wiper motor, wheels, spoiler, the list goes on but here it is as it stands now:

The Golf & the Bolf:

The Lump - look at how the piping is done properly, if anybody can suggest whats up with it let me know!

Rear All Smoothed:

The Front:

My Car and My Mates Car, Exactly How Mine Used To Look - What A Difference:

Rears:

As I said, still got alot to do but the main hassle is over - I hope!

Right found out the problems on saturday, spent 6 hours on the car and gave it a full service and now its running perfect with no fault codes or anything!

When I sent my ECU to DNA tuning, he didnt remap it, he just chipped my ECU and my engine didnt like it, kept throwing up loads of fault codes, my ecu kept saying it was over boosting and then cut the boost at 4k  so I had a choice to make, keep it at higher power and have no boost over 4k or put it back to standard so I changed it for a standard AUM 180 ECU, clocks and changed the immobiliser chip in my key. Going to get a custom code map next month!

Started to fit coilovers last night, got to do rears tonight then fit strut brace up! Had to leave it there though because where I put coilies on I now need spacers because the wheels are slightly rubbing, got the bus to work today...grrr!

Had another problem last night which is that the garage it was at didnt check my mounts and after going over a pothole the whole dogbone mount came loose and made my engine tilt backwards which made my inlet mani really high up and ended up denting my bonnet outwards - not happy! Sorted it last night temporarily (need a new mount) but its just more problems that wouldnt have happened if I didnt go to such a poop place.

Sideskirts, front grill and seats hopefully going in this weekend

Firstly thanks to Guy gti for having a spare dogbone mount which he is sending me today and not charging me for, the temporary one just gave way under a little bit of boost and a bumpy road  :undecided:

Coilovers went on last night too, the front needs to be lowered but where the back is concerned can you say "tyres tucked under arches?"

Right thought id update the project thread as ALOT has happened since I last updated it, this is a general run down of what has been going on over the last few weeks

Engine:

I was going to sell the chipped ECU on ebay but felt a bit bad that somebody would pay out and just have the same problems as me so I rang up the tuner and said for him to remove the chip and flash load the map. He gave me loads of jip about getting my mates to look at the ecu, blah blah, blah! I sent this back to him last week and received this on tuesday. Waited for my vagcom to turn up before I plugged it in just so I could clear any faults! Plugged it in on saturday just gone and no faults came up on vagcom which means that the chip was removed and that the tuner flash loaded the map. Anyway, went to take it out and it was back to wheelspinning in both 1st and 2nd, then came the suburu impreza sound, I knew it was coilpacks straight away. So I limped back to the guys and luckily they had two spare, yeah thats right I blew two not just one, after about 5 seconds of boost, lol! Changed them back over and left the ecu to reset itself and now its running like a dream (touch wood!) Going to take it up to be fine tuned on the rollers and looking to fit front mount and new t.i.p before the rolling road day which is coming up, but its defo over 200bhp and il be interested to see what actual power figures its pushing!

Cosmetics & Toys

Right ALOT has been done since brands and since last time I have updated. The following has been fitted:

FK Badgless grill; had a crap moulding grill, had to cut it down and mod it so it would actually fit

Cupra R Splitter; was a pain in the ass to fit but it got screwed in yesterday and really sets it off!

Headlight washers square patches; these have been put on using black mastic

Genuine R32 skirts; screwed and double side taped these on yesterday.

Rear Wiper Motor And Arm Removed; plugged with 25mm bung from halfords, much tidier!

Coil put on the rear suspension; it was just on the rear springs before, put the coils on and wow what a difference, raised the car up slightly but still need to lower front and get a nice stance!

Front brake pads changed

Rear lights changed from the tint sprayed ones I had, then I bought some hella black magics for £40 and then straight swapped them on friday night to a set of the red/clear magic colour lights which really brightens up the rear and makes it less drug dealerish as it had too much black on it, the best part is that the lights I got are only 2 weeks old and he paid £110 for them (got receipt to prove it) and are in a much better condition then the ones I gave him and paid £40 for!

Things to do still:

Fit gearknob - want one from a bettle turbo! Bolt on spoiler, detail the whole car, put wheels in for refurb, get new bonnet/wing. Smooth side strips, put in seats and a few more bits but im 70% of the way there now, its starting to take shape people! You'l be able to see the difference at this months brands!

Just got this pm on edition 38 from the deputy editor of Golf+ magazine:
Quote
Hi there,Would you mind if we used a couple of photos of your Mk4 1.8T swap for our IN Progress section of the GOLF+ magazine news pages? Every month we normally run a couple of pictures of someone's project as it's making progress and your 1.4 to 1.8T certainly sounds like an interesting venture. If you're into the idea I can probably pinch a couple of photos from your build thread and use a few of the details you've posted to knock together some words (only around 50 unfortunately) for our readers to have a butchers at.Let me know what you reckon Cheers James Wallace - 020 8726 8352Deputy Ed VW GOLF+IPC MediaLeon HouseCroydon CR9 1HZ
Pm'd him back and said no problem at all and asked about a full feature once the car is finished, waiting to hear on a reply!Car getting some recognition already!Tremendous!

Below are the copies of my print out from the rollers at TDI - they are not actually rollers its a machine that goes straight onto your hub so it elimated all the variations that rollers do.

(PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE WHEEL FIGURES NOT PUB FIGURES (FLYWHEEL! )

FLYWHEEL FIGURES ARE ALWAYS HIGHER BY 15-20%)

Need a boost controller and another map to keep the boost/torque lines climbing and staying a bit higher, apparently the generic map hasnt done my torque much favours though. Stage 2 map to come when money allows!

Did a few bits on the mk4 today whilst the weather permitted.

I now have black anni style headlining that looks so OEM I was even impressed! Got a S3 steering wheel for £10 off a mate (leather) just need the airbag, my mate who owns a scrapyard said I could have one for £50 so thats £60 for a new steering wheel much better than the standard 1.4 one!

Other little touches included leather handbrake gaiter, gearknob and leather gaiter (I know, I know the "sequential" stick shift has now gone!   )

Pics to follow once I bluetooth to my mate who can email them to me!

Right havent had a proper update in ages because havent been able to get pictures off my phone so here is one mega update for you all!

Firstly, I got all my sounds sorted out, components in the front, mids in the rear, 6x9's on the shelf, 2 amps and power cap:

Then we had to install my new storks due to me getting the anni clocks with the trip comp (due to my car being a 'e' I had no trip comp) so we went about rewiring everything back in
(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/DSC01835.jpg)

Everything back in and looking tidier:

Then the next problem to sort out was the immobiliser icon flashing up on the dash, my ecu has had the immobiliser defeated but the new clocks werent coded to the key and I couldnt get it coded because they key wasnt a genuine vw so we took the clocks out
(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/DSC01850.jpg)

took them apart:

plugged the led (to block it shining through and showing up the key icon whilst the car was on). Put them back in the car. As you can see the icon doesnt show up now, all i get is a single beep that says immobilser activated which goes in 2 seconds (I can live with that until I get a genuine key!)

Next up was the engine bay! My first forge split-R valve was faulty, so i rang forge, sent it back and they replaced it with this sexy black one:

Then we drilled the holes and put in the strut brace. I used a electric sander to get all the crap off my inlet manifold and lightly did the rocker, going to be polishing it up this week at my mates house. I found a spare vw fingers sticker so I quickly whacked it on my battery cover and put that in the bay, here's how it looks at the moment:

looks a bit better me thinks!

So after a clean this is how the car looked:

I then got offered a set of RS6's for £50, but they were in need of a refurb, due to my current front tyres being bald, I put the two with good tyres on the front temporarily (I called these my drift tyres  ) These looked the nuts so I quickly snapped them up off a mate who had an accident in his mk4 and is putting the 1.8t into his mk2
(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/DSC01913.jpg)

A few days later the car was sent to my pal who mopped and buffered the whole car, got rid of alot of swirl marks and really bough the paint up the nuts:

I put the old tryes back on the front and put the rs6's in for refurb last wednesday with a view to pick them up on saturday to change them over for the show (gti spring festival). Saturday just gone I went to pick up the wheels and set about finally slamming the car and getting some stance and of course changing the wheels over!

Whilst doing the wheels I noticed I had r32 style 'R' centre caps in blue and thought it would be a nice touch to paint the calipers the same blue to match the centre caps and whilst the wheels were off and we were doing the suspension it made sense really:

opinons?

This pic shows how low we actually went with my mk4, personally I think it looks the nuts!

I also got my little in progress coloum in this months (may issue) of golf + magazine, once the golf is done then il be getting a full feature hopefully!

Pics from when I parked on the grass at Gti Spring Festival - the splitter only needed to be sharp to actually be cutting the grass

Parked up on the outskirts of the show and shine area:

General snaps of the motor in the last few days - opinons please?

Update! This weekend the engine got a bit of love! I polished the poop out of the bay and got some red piping. Stuck my two stickers from gti spring festival on too! 1) my dub sticker went on the slam panel and 2) my red wolfsburg sticker went on the top of my cold air feed pipe to bring a little bit more red in the bay!:

(http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/3572/dsc02040pe6.jpg)     (http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/4391/dsc02033rl0.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

I cut a small air hole in the passangers side lower vent because the cold air feed is on now (encased in a water bottle so it doesnt get wrecked, with the pipe going straight to the pipe from the grill:

(http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9151/dsc02039kj3.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")     (http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/7842/dsc02034re3.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Calipers need to go back to red asap as the blue really isnt doing it for me now
(http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/7779/dsc02037wg2.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

another productive weekend for Ash!

Update!

Saturday I went to pick up:

KO4 Turbo (from 225bhp S3) with wastegate
3" s3 maf sensor and housing
upgraded s3 injectors (bigger then standard s3)
3" red forge silicone turbo intake pipe
oil feeds
water lines
mainfold
twin cats and downpipe
brand new magnex decat pipe
all bolts, nuts, gaskets (brand new still in vag packets)

all for £450

(http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/2156/spa0488sr0.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

(http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/696/spa0489we0.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Brought it all back then started on taking out the engine again, the front end off with the KO3s waiting to come off:

(http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/8250/spa0490ay9.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Did it all day saturday and replaced turbo and had it back in by saturday night. Did all the wiring exhaust/downpipe on sunday as the KO4 has a different downpipe and requires twin cats, so had to take off my standard single cat downpipe (which I only replaced the other week - for sale!) and replaced it with this bad boy:

(http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/5546/spa0493ql8.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Put the car back together and then started her up, started 1st time but have got 2 leaks; oil and water, had a look on ETKA and seen the parts we need to order in:

1) need a new gasket for the oil return pipe

2) need a new o-ring for the water feed as the one I had is slightly split.

About 3pm on sunday we stopped and the car had to be moved to my other mates for him to finish off after work as James had to put another car in his garage, here is a pic of me getting towed by Sammy on here to Bens :D

(http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3193/spa0494br1.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Could have driven it but didnt want to risk running out of oil whilst driving and doing damage!

Once we got to bens I took a few snaps, I also got some hitachi coilpacks as the standard aum bosch ones are weak and blew up with my ko3s so with a ko4 I think they would last about 2 minutes, new red forge intake pipe ties in well with the red hoses and main hose on throttle body. You can also no longer see the KO3s charge pipe but just the bigger manifold for the KO4  B)

(http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/6273/spa0495oz4.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

(http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/6533/spa0496ar8.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

My inlet manifold looked really dirty so I said whilst it was there we might as well take it out and i can sand and polish it for when it goes back in, so we did (look how dirty it is now and how mirrorred it came up in the newest post in this thread)

(http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3849/spa0501bx9.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")
(http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/707/spa0500rw7.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

After I get these bits on then new boost pipes will need to be made up for my front mount, fit them and they get a remap and I should be looking at between 280 and 290 bhp.

pics to follow shortly, hopefully will be up and running by thursday, if not definatly this weekend!

I have a stage one remapped immobiliser defeated AUM ecu for sale now along with a standard downpipe, pm me if interested!

280bhp here I come, now even a bigger difference from the initial factory 75 brake it came out with :D

Right, with nothing to do apart from wait for a few parts to come in from vw (collected a few hours ago) I thought what better to do then reshine my inlet manifold and whilst its off do the tunnels that go into the engine as most peoples are shined up unless been done by a pro:

As it came off the engine, was shiny but where we had been touching it putting the lump out and back in it had collected dirt :(

(http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/695/spa0508xp9.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Got a sander on it and sanded down the rough bits by hand:

(http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2189/spa0512ds0.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Then went round Sammys and used his polishing wheel for a few hours - I like the outcome!

(http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/5746/spa0515iz0.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

(http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/5536/spa0521xy6.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Also quick did the fuel rail and went over the rocker cover quickly to get the shine back up!

Putting them back on the car in a few hours, will get some snaps and hopefully some good news!

Post by: Ashmond on 14 May 2008, 15:46
Right another update! Car has been off road for a week an a half now and I think the missus has got the hump a little bit. She said to me on friday, what do you need to get it running again and I aptley said "a HUGE front mount!" so right on queue she went and ordered me the biggest one she could find on ebay! (good girl!) Basically I need to get a front mount in for when the KO4 is up and running, didnt want to go the standard twin cat route and because I had a universal front mount piping kit I thought I would give it a go:

It turned up yesterday:

Some pics of the fitting! I picked up my gti twin fans and radiator the other week as the 1.4 ones I was running didnt even cool my KO3s let alone the KO4 but also the rad and slam panel wouldnt be big enough to have the front mount on top. After removing the air con rad (base model, no air con)

we noticed that this would need severe operating on if I did have the aircon rad just due to how thick the intercooler is (3"), we then test fitted the intercooler on it and saw that the crash bar needed to be modified slightly and cut back so it would fit over it:

problem solved!

Then we hung it temporarily with cable ties until we make up some metal plates to weld on to bolt into
(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/DSC02149.jpg)

Trial fitted the bumper, goes over just! May need slight cutting on the passangers side for when the boost pipes actually get fitted:
When we went to see how pipes out fit and how they would run we noticed that the fmic needs to be a bit higher up and that il need to make a choice:

choice 1:
Dont have any grills in and just have the hardpipes showing (I like this but think its a bit max powerish)

choice 2:
Raise the front mount up, carefully cut into my genuine ( :( ) r32 bumper so we can still fit the grills so the pipes are hidden
(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/DSC02156.jpg)

Then night caught up with us and we had to stop, so I just took a few snaps!

After everything we worked out that I need the following:

3 x 90 degree silicone elbow bends
3 x 90 degree aluminum elbow bends
1 x silicone reducer elbow (2" to 2 1/2")

Order these on friday and then hopefully be on the move again mid next week.

What do people think I should do with regards to the boost pipes, exposed or hidden?

Right, last night all my joins and piping turned up and we fitted it all and made sure it fit, unfortunatly they forgot one straight reducer for the intercooler (left side) so couldnt actually try it out. My battery died whilst we were doing it so only got one snap of when we fitted it all at first. Since then we cut the pipes shorter with a grinder so they are really compact and so they hardly take up any space. I am not going to have the pipes on show as we put the bumper on yesterday and I didnt really like the look as much as I thought I would. We had to cut my bumper so the intercooler fitted and then it got dark so couldnt do anymore. Need to put the jubilees on all the piping, do the electrics from where I replaced the fans, etc and then start her up and then see what problems I've got. I also put the magnex decat on yesterday and will get this taken into account when the map is done. With my cold air feed polished pipe and the rest of the bay polished I think its going to look really good!

Il get more snaps tonight when I go back to try and finish it or at least get closer to driving it again!

its been rolling roaded with the KO3s already so il have something to compare when it gets rollered with the KO4

*edit*

We did some more on the wagon this evening. Did all the boost pipes, fitted the decat and turned her over. She sounds the nuts, you can hear the turbo winding down from the back of the exhaust! But then we hit problems, we had an oil leak coming from the back of the turbo. We thought the lump would have to come back out to get access to it but we just dropped the turbo off the manifold and disconnected the downpipe. Turns out the oil and water feeds were not done up tight enough, when we had a closer look it showed the the helicoil threads were not flush and therefore I would have lost loads of power, sorted that. Now just need to pick up a reducer for downpipe to my milltek system and some gaskets from vw, hang the cooler, jubilee the pipes up and then turn her on and see what she runs like!

Should be done for Brands hatch meet!

I got the decat with the KO4 but they sell them on ebay for 100 delivered!

Was finishing this off last night so its ready for the Prept meet tonight. Hung the front mount properly and now just need to get some exhaust clamps and hang the exhaust. Had to cut away the bumper and if im honest the fit isnt perfect but it'l do for now until the weekend when im going to do all the few niggly bits (fit grill, empty car, etc) here are a few pics of how she looked and looks atm:

Another update, me and vdubben today replaced my whole aum engine loom for s3 APY loom and I am going for complete S3 APY management. The advantages of this are that I dont now have to go for a custom AUM map but also the AUm ecu's are prone to throw up more fault codes and to put it plainly the s3 management doesnt actually give a foobar, lol.

Spoke to BNB today and he has all the bits I need to get the car up and running; injectors, 3" maf, APY ecu and hitachi coilpacks. So im going to pick those bits up tomorrow and trade some my remapped ECU and other bits and get this beast running!

Got some pics il upload them when I get back to a pc with a dongle!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted: 09 June 2008 - 02:07 PM

right got the pictures, got the 3" maf, and 3 ecu's to try out, unfortunatly one of the ECU's was a BAM one and the other 2 were for AMK S3's (which are pre 2000). The problem with this is that my keys and clocks are 2001 and therefore we cannot add the Ecu so it'l run. We temporarily used an ARZ ECU to get the car started and running. Just need to pick up the hitachi coilpacks, APY ECU and 210 injectors and then she'l be driveable! Below are the pics:

S3 loom:

AUM loom out:

S3 loom going in:

Had to modify the wiring for the throttle body as the s3 ones are on the right hand side and the mk4 ones are on the left:

s3 ECU's and 3" maf:

The car running - I wish the sound quality is better, the flutter goes on for about twice as long as it did with the KO3s, the decat sounds brilliant too!

Golf with the Ko4 running - click here (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fjCQqrd2Jk")

Going to pick up the rest of the bits today. We did a full vagcom on the car and there are no fault codes, it just doesnt deliver the power properly due to the injectors being the 150 models

:D

Right a little update for you all. I had a problem with the car cutting out once we had it running properly, this was because the selector in wrong and everytime I thought I was selecting 1st I was actually selecting 3rd. So we sorted that out on friday just gone and changed my suspension over for a set of FK coilovers taken from my mates donor car which you'l see in the pics later. Had a bit of a manic day on saturday trying to get the car ready for inters. After getting it running and taking it out for a spin, I noticed that I had a bit of a problem with my left wheel and suspected my wishbone might be a bit tired as this has never been changed in the whole 4 years I have owned the car so I set about doing that while everybody else was doing their prep work for the show, vdubben sprayed his car and everybody else just did last minute bits:

Off came the wishbone:

As you can see the rubber is pretty buggered on the wishbone as I thought!

So I went to our donor mk4 and took the wishbone off that - sweet!

Went back and started to fit it - this is the first one I have done by myself may I add B)

Back on and all sorted now I had to go about replacing some oil breather pipes on the car:

Sorted it then went for a drive and the system was airlocked as you can see by the puddle of water coming out from underneath my car and got an overheating problem because of this and because my thermostat was broken :( So we took it out and I got another one at International on sunday for 12 a 70 degree one too so it'l run cooler which is better for me as I got a big front mount blocking my rad and taking allt he air - lol!

We then went to wash the cars for inters at 11pm at night - lol!

Went for a big drive that night to make sure the car was fine, ignoring the tempreture fluctuations it drove brilliantly. Got up early for inters (4am) and went to the petrol station with a few of the boys to fill up:

She was hot and had lost alot of water so I bought some anti freeze and filled her up, stupid me as this put another air lock in the system, drove it for about fiften minutes and then had to leave her at a petrol station as she wouldnt have made the journey and didnt want to make everybody wait for me.

When I came back from inters I got her home changed the thermostat and got rid of the air lock and she is perfect again! So anybody at Brands hatch tomorrow come and say hi!

Right sorted a few bits out this weekend so I could pop down to the VW Expo Show at Hop Farm. Changed over some gaskets for the exhaust, put a new temp sensor in her and also cut down the cold air feed pipe and put that in which makes the bay look a bit meaner in my opinion.

With Cold Air Feed Pipe In:

Lowered her at the front slightly too since putting on the FK Highsports which I got for free - touch!

Right got an update finally, seems like the project was a bit stagnant so I pulled my socks up and have done a few bits! After seeing the floor Sammy built in his mk4, I deceided I wanted to loose the rear seats in mine too and we went about building a fake floor with my sounds built into it. Havent got any pics of the build, only as it stands at the moment, it still needs to be leathered, 6x9's need to be put in the hinged selves, sub needs to be dropped into the floor and powercap needs to be mounted into the floor too, as it looks atm:

(http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/5593/dsc00579hd6.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Title: Re: Ashmond - 'mk4 1.4 bottom of range to 1.8t Dub'
Post by: Ashmond on 11 October 2010, 12:34
The 6x9's will be cut into this floor which is hinged which allows me to store bits underneath, get to the wires and also aim the 6x9's at people looking into the boot at shows ;)

(http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/6647/dsc00582wj9.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Sammy and Danny did me a favour whilst I started to repolish the bay and took out my washer bottle and screen wash tank and sprayed them black for me with heatproof paint so it just tidied up the bay a bit, I then went out bought some red paint and did my caps red and my coilpacks the same black as the car. I did do the coilpacks red initially but it was just overkill to be honest!

(http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4995/dsc00011jk7.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")
(http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/775/dsc00012zm8.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

After that I had to do was paint my calipers red as they were blue and didnt go with my red and black colour scheme at all:

(http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/4033/dsc00576uo6.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")
(http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/2136/dsc00577re8.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")
(http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/7940/dsc00583fu7.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

Next thing I had to do was try and sort out my paintwork as it looked tired and had a few chips, I invested in some Meguiars ScratchX, black turtle wax with chipstick (which was actually really good), some Meguiars Tech Wax and some speed detailer. Went over the car for ages and am keeping it clean and was really happy with the results considering how bad it did look!

(http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/1188/dsc00588yo1.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

I also went about getting my bumper to fit properly, as anybody who has seen the car in the metal before will have seen the bumper didnt fit properly due to the stupidly large intercooler but I sorted that out without cutting my r32 bumper!

(http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/2198/dsc00585gh9.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")
Then we went about getting the KO4 boosting up properly, which we did and all I can say is Jesus Christ with two seats and a KO4 she flies! Had a race with a R33 skyline and I didnt budge from his bumper until my boost pipe blew off so I had to pull over the side of the road and put it back on tightly. I should be getting the main boost pipe from the turbo to intercooler welded together as one piece as I had a cheap joiner from a ebay fmic kit I had (didnt have a spare samco coupler). Once I screwed it down so it didnt move the boost had no choice but to blow a hole in the side of it:

(http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/9049/dsc00009mt6.jpg) (http://"http://imageshack.us")

So I definatly need it welded as one piece now I think. I know I was saying the KO3s is better than the KO4 but I completely take that back now. My car flies now, the noise of the spool up is completely different and the noise at gearchange is the bollards. Il try and get a vid later, the problem is that if I go over 4k on the revs im likely to blow another coupler!

Quick Vid of the car, just because I wanted to see what it looked and sounded like from the outside - I love the sound! Bit annoying as cant take it over 3,500rpm at the moment as thats when the boost pipes pop off, will be buying some proper silicone and good clips on
the weekend as all the shops are shut when I finish work!

Comments welcome (I know I shouldnt be speeding but I wasnt actually going that quick)

Had an emergency day off yesterday to sort my car out after it got waterlogged due to the freak weather on Wednesday night.

Got the car low loaded to my mates V dub yard where we proceeded to do a compression test, the result no compression in the 2nd chamber. Stripped her down took the head off to find that I had water in all of my bores. All my pistons are level but I think when we strip down the bottom end im going to have bent conrods. To make things worse I just got made redundant as the mortgage industry is f**ked!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

She is back on the road as of thursday, still over heating like a b!tch so im 50/50 for edition38, going to crack on with waterpump and cambelt tomo!

Here is a pic I found the other day from Prept vs Players, got to put it up because I love it so much! lol

Hey Guys,

After the laughs, grey hairs, loosing my rag, actual tears of joy, sighs of relief, money spent, arguments with my ex, the break up(s), the people I have met and good friends I have made on the way it completely breaks my heart to tell you that I have deceided to break my mk4 after a problem with my bottom end now on my Aum (they are no good for a ko4 honestly).

I have been fighting it since back in August when I got made redundant from my Mortgage firm of 5 years and since then I have been temping here and there not earning even half of what I used to and cannot actually afford after looking at my finances to keep on with the project of my life so far. I am actually really upset to let you guys know that this is my final decision and even though I want to be cannot be swayed. Those of you who have seen my car in the flesh and have met me know how much I love my car and how much effort and stress has gone into it. It was a project with started way before I even had an inkling that my whole industry was going to crash and die and therefore had the money to plough into it and actually acheive my aim of creating a show/cover car from a completely base model mk4 golf, this is one thing that I am truley dissapointed in the most.

But bottom line is due to being let go from another temp job of 4 months, I cannot actually afford to have this car anymore due to the unstablitly of my income now. I will be on the look out for another car to have in the meanwhile while im saving my money so if anybody knows of anything preferably 1.9tdi or 1.6 engine or smaller please let me know (willing to do deal for parts)

My car is being broken over the next month and all parts will be stored in my garage from the ko4 set up to the suspension and smoothed tailgate. I will be putting up a long list of special bits in classifieds over the weekend, as well as the normal bits from the mk4, bonnet, wings, etc.

Thanks again to everybody that have been supportive of my dream and to those of you who have offered help and helped me on the way to realising it almost all the way. Still be dubbing guys so dont worry, may even give Rhyso a bit of satisfaction now by saying if I can get one cheap enough I may even buy a mk4 derv, but it'l be staying standard.

Thanks Again

Ashmond

Its been a long time with alot of stuff been going on behind the scenes but I am proud to say that I havent just dropped the mk4 like an old cavalier and that I sourced another engine and its in. Just got a few more bits to do and she'l be up and running again. My job situation hasnt improved much so she may not be on the road for a while as it is due tax, mot and insurance but she will be out on the streets once again once I do. A few things are different this time, mainly the engine; BJX engine code from an 07 low mileage polo 1.8t gti. There were a few differences that needed changing, including bracket for engine mounts, sensors and plugs but she is all loomed up and just needing a few bits (gaskets) and then the little bits, driveshafts etc to be bolted in and then she should start up again.

Look at my old engine been stripped down, no point in reusing as my bottom end has given up the ghost due to my belt breaking on me sad2

BUT she is back on the way to being finished once again, a few interior mods have been done but il keep them underwraps for the meanwhile. Once engine is in and running sweet, it'l be bodywork and then im done with her.

Right time for an update. I havent been dubbin for a while as went away to work on a greek island for 5 months over the summer and just have a good time! Since I been back I had to get the car all vagcom'd and ready for mot as we got it running before I left back in May. This is all done now and running like a dream with its 1.8t engine from an 07 polo and the KO4 turbo and all bits from the previous engine. Unfortunatly I had to sell a few bits in order to keep the car rather then selling it so have a few bits of bodywork to do now
---------------------------------------------------------

I went on to do another summer season and that brings us pretty much up to date with this!!

Posted 07 October 2010 - 12:34 PM

Havent updated my thread in a long long time so thought Id do so now, ended up doing a 2nd season abroad and the mk4 wasnt sold but just sat on the driveway looking sorry for itself. I am now back in work permenantly back in my industry and am looking to restart the build thread. Unfortunatly as a few of you know I have had to sell my r32 bumper and a few bits BUT I have a rear 32 bumper coming this weekend already in gloss black ready to go straight on and a r32 twin pipe exhaust system which I am swapping my current 4mo exhaust for. On the hunt for a genuine front 32 bumper again and once the exhaust and rear is mounted il get some snaps up.

SHE IS BACK!

'11 October 2010 - 12:01 PM

Right had a busy and productive weekend to the mk4, as mentioned in a previous post I was waiting for r32 bumper and exhaust . so I got up saturday morning very hungover to go out and do the exhaust to realise that I didnt have a jack (its been a while since I had worked on the car and forgot!) So I rang up Sammyu and he came over with stands and Jjack. Unfortunatly he had to go, so I was left to crack on by myself. so I set about removing my 4mo style Milltek (forgot the centre box, had to do that in the dark when T_Benn got to my house - mission!)

Luckily the bumper was in the same straight black as my car, good for now but the finish isnt brilliant so will need another respray when the car goes in for general bodywork and sprucing up at the end stages.

Exhaust wont hang proerly as had to cut iold 'V' rubber off my 4mo as it was split, need to replace! Put a bit of wood to hold it up as Sam took his jack with him. Also need to make up bracket for rightside tailpipe, didnt have time to finished yesterday will be finishing one night this week. Good progress though, more updates on the way.

As it stands, probably finish tomorrow night after work:

Right this weekend I finished installing the exhaust and lowered he back to the ground after being in the air a week. Also Charged battery and started her. slight blow in the middle of the exhuast which I will need to sort out but apart from that, runs smooth and sounds immense now with this system! Also took out the fake floor at the back, looking for leathers or red and black recaro cloth gti seats to carry on with the red and black theme. opinions always welcome.

Right this weekend I went down to Portsmouth to pick up a set of cream leather recaros from "charliefletcher". didnrt know how Cream would look with my all black car but for the price I couldnt actually say no. They were in need of a clean and maybe a repair kit. These were the pictures before I went to go get them:

Now installed and clean they look like this!

I havent updated this in a while so thought I would finally do it. I sent the car down to a garage (not mentioning any names) to finish off the mk4 paint and engine, as you could see from the last video it ran, boosted and sounded pretty damn good but they rang me and said they wanted £2,500 as they would have to start from scratch which I thought was ridiculous so I said for them to get on with the painting and il sort the engine out. Fell victim to the old "out of sight out of mind" symdrome and got preoccupied with other things. Got a call from them saying what are u doing about this car, I had assumed they were going to paint at least but no so I deceided to cut my losses and hire a garage privatley that I could store it in that we could work on it whenever i wanted and also to buy a run around to make it easier for collecting parts but also so I didnt have to rush the golf for the sake of having wheels again...which brings me up to the beginning of december when I got my garage and car back:

Car:

By having the garage with the car inside and my trusty fiesta diesal I can get the mk4 100% before bringing it out rather then before rushing just to have some wheels:

first thing was first it needed a clean, seats came up nicely:

Engine is still looking half decent, parts needed though before we can continue, got my list now and over 50% of the parts I have got in a week just waiting to get paid then I can buy my injectors. S3 ECU has been mapped. Other parts are being ordered from various sources to get this looking as factory pipewise as possible.

New Brakes all round to be ordered at end of the month as well as completely checking the car prior to MOT, brake lines, bushes, suspension, wish bones, etc. Due to having the garage I am able to work on it whenever so far we have made a list of what I need and Ive 90% of it already; we took the ancillaries out of the engine bay that werent needed; old 2.5" maf, filter, etc as new s3 parts to go in and got the laptop out for new parts/part numbers (cheers V Dub Ben as per) The boost pipes have been removed and I have dropped them into a fabricators to weld the spouts for my n75 and dv as per the OEM charge pipe:

Bits have started to turn up this week:

Pipework has been dropped into fabricators too to get spouts welded for DV and N75, should be ready next week:

Will update after this week and weekends work has been carried out. Im not in a better financial position then when the majority of the progress was carried out this should be moving along very swiftly with the help of vdubben (white1.4 -> 1.8t ko4 hybrid bold) and Sammy (smoothed silver and orange bbs golf+ car) both helping me out as their cars are nigh on finished.

I also had to put this up for a bit of inspiration at work:

More Updates to come after this weekend as the boys are "booked" in for a day of dubbing!

Thanks for looking

Ash

Good weekend and some real progress made. Engine almost all the way there just need to grab a new n75 valve, get boost pipes back from the fabricators and get a maf flange then we looking good. Got my ECU remapped again with a stage 2 APY s3 remap, 3" maf and some other bits. We Plugged in the ECU and fired her up. She sounded good, obviously throwing up a load of random non engine fault codes/ We also bled the clutch so my mate who works at National tyres can hang the exhaust on the ramp and sort the blow. Boost pipes should be done by wednesday when I can replum the intercooler, dv and n75 valves.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_iAbSypDXM

Like I said exhaust needs to be hung hence why she is sounding a bit "throaty" lol. Funny thing is, I got quoted 2 grand to do what we did in 5 hours after spending £140 and that obviously wouldnt include the new map

Another update;

my boost pipe has now had the spouts for n75 and dump valve onto it:

Engine now runs perfectly, not im on the other bits - cleaning the car up inside, engine and outside. Getting my litle bits and pieces sorted, some more bits already turned up before christmas;

After christmas the exhaust is getting hung, new brakes are going on, tracking and balancing too. Still on the look out for a L041 straight black passangers wing and bonnet. Inbox me if you know of any.

Big progress is being made at the moment :)

Another update;

Epic weekend for me. Deceided to take the car off the stands and get it rolling now the clutch had been bled and the majority of engine parts have been fitted. The intercooler wasn’t very secure and the old bolts were bent and corroded where the car had been sitting for a while without a front bumper on so Sammy and I went to B&Q to get the necessary bolts. We also rearranged the pipework so we could include the Forge MAP sensor flange into the pipework

Sammy is too cool for school:

Fitted my 3” filter to my new filter:

I then went removed the EGR valve from the side of the engine and fit the blanking plate to give me more space for the boost pipes;

My s3 injectors turnt up along with my N75f valve, these were the last pieces I need in order for this engine to run properly;

Fitted;

Trial fitted my new bumper as well; need to take about an inch off the left fmic pipe so it sits back and the bumper can slot on perfectly, but bought a hacksaw this morning and will be doing that this evening;

Then I moved the car out the garage for the first time in a couple years where I wasn’t pushing it. It was actually driving;

Little vid – obviously not giving it full beans as it is a residential road;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBfZ47ydono

This weekend we also focused on the interior, the silver painted trim I had in the car didn’t really go with the cream so deceided to go for some subtle carbon wrap rather then painting as a) its cold out and b) its a lot easier. BIG Thank you to Sammy for doing this for me as I did try but just don’t have the finesse needed;

Also the rear lights benefitted as the white part stood out on a black car;

Next weekend im going to be hitting the interior hard with the cleaning and the refitting of all bits as well as the fitting of my boost switch so I can have the car at about 100bhp and full power just on a switch to save strain on the engine and on my pocket in petrol money.

Thanks

After loosing a weekends worth of work to the snow the week previous, I decided I had to make some serious headway with the car either on the interior or finishing the last few tiny bits on the engine. First thing was first she needed a clean and I put the plate back on to give it that almost there feel (all in my head but nevertheless):

 It then started raining in true form so I thought best to get the interior back together looking much more like a whole car again inside;

I tackled the easy parts first and got the stereo out of my fiesta and installed it into the mk4 as a temp stereo until I can get a double din unit:

Installed, obviously the silver parts on the side are to be wrapped still

Next was to get the door handles sorted so I trimmed off the excess wrap and them came out really well I think:

As with most mk4’s my interior was shot to pieces so I hit up a new breakers near me which seems to be a goldmine as I got all of the below for less then a tenner (including the boot carpet)

As I was driving out I saw a Bora in another yard so decided to see if there were any vents going cheap, there weren’t  but I did see that they had a set of clocks like the old set that I wished I never sold (times were hard)…..I thought no way, somebody had taken the vents but left these clocks, you got to be joking, its got to be diesel, alas it was petrol and I snapped up a set of Bora Sport clocks like my old set for a BARGAIN price…..to say I was chuffed and still am is an understatement! So I put down a deposit and collect them this weekend, as an added bonus they have the trip computer which is already wired up to my stalk from my old clocks.

When I got back Vdub Ben gave me a shout and said he wanted to do the wiring to extend my map sensor so he came over and did that, just need to be soldered now:

We decided to have a look at the serious blow in my exhaust and I have ordered up a step down sleeve and the centre rubbers for it. Once they arrive il get under and fit them, problem in theory should be solved.

He was also telling me about how he had his boost run into his cruise control stork so he could have a third of the power then flick the switch full power, I wanted a bit of this so I bought the resistors, my button and thought it would look quite sweet in the blanking plug where you Gti owners normally have your traction control…I don’t have that so thought good thing to replace it with. Didn’t have the tools so went round sammys, got the hole drilled and used the mini dremel to get the right size hole:

Fitted (needs to be wired up then it will light up ‘Boost’ in red when pressed and should match the rest of the dash;

Also spoke to VWUnit and he needed a set of OE mk4 headlights and I needed a good condition 1.8T Gti steering wheel so we gonna do a straight swap. Just needs to install the cream handbrake get a few little cream parts to tie in the seats, nothing major and then interior is 90% finished.

Quick pic of how its looking at the moment

PROGRESS!! Finishing last few bits off in the next couple weeks then hopefully paint, tax, mot and insurance next month – think im going to miss U.D but nevermind I should be out for shows after that.

Comments welcome as always

Last night I met up with a member from Edition, VWUnit top bloke that I hadnt seen in years but kept in contact with since helping him out with a few bits, he wanted my old headlights to split and he he a 3 spoke MINT leather gti steering wheel which I wanted as Im focusing on the interior atm. The 1.4 4 spoke wheel wasnt cutting it for me anymore, neither was the random green wheel that turned up from somewhere so last night I met up with him around 11 in Catford to swap, very happy with it as it is literally mint, no wear or scratches at all. Once I pick the clocks up on the weekend I just have to cover the rest of the centre console, order some new matts with cream piping and fit my new seat belts then interior is done. Moving fast on this now, just want it done and dusted!

Update from yesterday; brilliant day with the full crew round to finally get this finished engine wise and most bits for tax, mot and insurance at the end of this month. Had a few goodies packed in the fiesta on the way to the garage:

Centre rubbers on exhaust pan:

Reducer sleeve on, had to cut in the gaps by hand with a hacksack to get a firm grip on the centre section and backbox:

With the exhaust finally fitted properly, she did sound so much better and its nice to actually hear the exhaust note without the blow

Benny did the soldering on my extended map sensor wires so they would stretch down to my forge flange off the front mount, also got the new fans swapped over, sorted out a water and power steering leak I had, topped up all fluids and she is back and running beautifully!

I went to go and pick up the Bora Sport Clocks but the place was shut so il save the interior shots until they are in but its looking so much better now. Had to get a quick couple of pics whilst the old trio was parked up together for first time in ages!

Sammy's is obviously on air, making mine and vdub bens look like they were on stilts but still nice to see all together.

Now to start looking for a decent paint shop...comments welcome as always

Took a bit of flexi time off work this morning to go and collect my Bora Sport Dials. Got them in the car so took a few interior shots, bit dark as car is front end in the garage but you get the general idea. Nice to see bits I have done and bought ages ago starting to tie in nicely; black headliner, TT pedals, momo gearknob, etc. Now just to fit my cream handbrake and red anni style seatbelts, order a cream gaiter and keep an eye out for some Bora vents. Then the interior is basically finished. Progress. Engine done, interior 95% there, now just for paint :D

Last weekend I wanted to change the pads at discs at the front as they were shot and needed replacing bad. Also wanted to change the drivers side boot as it was split. Unfortunatly after realising I didnt have a 30mm 12 point socket I had to go and borrow one off a mate only to realise that only superman was going to be able to undo my driveshaft nut so that is something I will have to try later with some powertools to crack it. I did however change the pads and discs. These are not 312mm but I am saving for a large set at the moment but as mentioned earlier the current discs and pads had to be changed. When Sammy and I tried to change these before the drivers side screw got threaded and I had forgot so it had to be 'persuaded' with a bit of brute force thus showing me how much surface rust was on my brakes so had to get the wire brush up and give it a good clean up:

Poor quality phone pics I know. Now just waiting to get paid to get a front knock sensor, a silicone elbow piece from my boost pipe to dv and give it another flash on the laptop and put the front back on. Going to ring today to book an MOT for this weekend

Thanks for reading

Booked my MOT for Tuesday coming so this weekend I thought to get more done on the mk4.

Had two punctures on my rs6 tyres so borrowed a set of steel wheels from a mate really liking the stealth look actually

Next stop was a breakers to look for a new passengers wing to replace the one I have that's got a huge dent in it, got one in same LO41 paint code - also managed to get the relay box plastics for the engine bay to make it look more OEM.

Ignore my fat thumb!

New wing, needs a t cut but all in all much better
(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/8510c176.jpg)

Whilst at breakers I also picked up a beetle gearknob and factory cream gaiter which would tie in nicely so I fitted that and my cream handbrake I had been meaning to put in earlier (cream leather top part of armrest has been ordered too but won't be here for a couple weeks)

The 'u' silicone also turned up so I fitted this to my boost pipe and now my recirc valve is plumbed in, in need of an aftermarket one badly though

That was yesterday, this morning I had to get the car over to a friends garage to get the really small but equally annoying exhaust blow sorted out;

They did what they could and it is much much better then before
(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/77b3d0dd.jpg)

Couple of snaps as it stands, need to get legalities out the way then I can finally start getting quotes for body work as it needs attention, doesn't help being black everything stands out, but all in good time

Had MOT this morning, it failed but only on a very few minor things; a few bulbs out, cv boot split on drivers side (got the boot in the garage), front bumper not secure (sorted that with parcel today), number plate light not working and brake pressure not high enough so need to rebleed. For now it's on my drive so il crack on with those things this week in the evenings and get retested, not to mention give it a well overdue clean inside and out! quite happy with that result considering its been sitting for over two and half years and had a new engine in! Took a parcel today, new legal pressed rear plate and 45 degree elbow reducer to take the pipe from the front mount away from the bumper so it can fit perfectly, so close to being ready for paint now very exciting stuff:

Last night I couldn’t resist doing a few bits on the car as it was now on the drive and not ten minutes away in the garage I have rented. So I whipped the front bumper off and fit the new 45 degree reducer for the drivers side intercooler piping. After cutting a lot off it I managed to cut the pipe down so it now hardly touches the bumper at all, completely cut off the corner and put the forge map pipe to connect the two – perfect fit on the bumper now

Seriously in need of some spacers and my 18’s back on, oh and also fitted the rear pressed plate which looks much cleaner:

Forgot to keep this updated so just catching up now

May 24th:

Little update. Got my MOT, transferring my insurance on monday and getting taxed too. Had a good weekend fitted a new tyre, a 6000k HID kit, had the car remapped with a new stage 2 map, fitted the knock sensor and vag com'd the car. I also managed to sort the problem of my boost pipe popping off under full boost, now she goes like stink and sounds brilliant. Very chuffed to finally be having it on the road for the first time in over 3 years...need to get my windscreen replaced and get bodywork done but hopefully I should be at prept this wednesday. As she stands now just waiting for monday to get paid  :D

Also got an uprated poly dogbone mount to fit, need to get a splitter/grills too, obviously she needs to go lower and get stanced out, quick vid of how it sounds on the new remap with my r32 exhausts (very happy)

(http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/th_fc9e9c60.jpg) (http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s105/AshmondJ/?action=view&current=fc9e9c60.mp4)

28th May:

Right a bit late as I am VERY pleased to say I have been busy driving my car finally!! As of last Monday she has been back on the road. She is still looking a bit sore and in need of some bodywork but she is all up and running again which i am extremely happy about.

Took the monday off (of course) and went up to Sammys to get a few bits done (due to not having electricity at the garage I was renting/limited tools I have been quite limited in what we could do)

First things first - PETROL:

I went for a little drive before we went to Sams to get a feel for her and obviously see if there were any bits that would be needed after more then a 30 second drive up the street, there was - one of the water pipes that we blocked off split, not proper water hose so not surprising. First stop was Eurocar parts for some proper water hosing and some coolant.

Off to sammys and we cracked on. First thing was to fit this little beaut which I got for a tenner, thanks Ben!

As you can probably tell the bumper didnt really fit, its not a genuine one but until I can get one it will do.

Now anybody who has met Sam or has seen his car (silver mk4 on air with green BS) knows this kid is a beast when it comes to mk4's and boy did he and us bring it to the table on monday. We made the bumper fit after about 7/8 trial fits, we cut it down very slightly so the intercooler pipes didnt push the bumper out, we also trimmed down the intercooler pipes even more as there was alot of extra pipe that wasnt needed.

Sammy also had a spare r32 grilled which he lent me and we fit the bumper, its not perfect but nigh on and a million times better then before:

Next thing was a new windscreen, I had filthy crack up mine and to be honest it was scratched within an inch of its life, plus I just wanted rid of that bloody chavy sunstrip

Picked up a few goodies over the week:

Got myself a Baileys Recirc valve for £25 which was a bargain as I was using the standard plastic one and that probably wasnt helping matters lol! This is fitted and I got to say I absolutely love the sound of it, good buy!

That brings me up to date today, went to the breakers this morning and got a little heads up that there was a Bora sitting in the other yard at the back so I managed to pick Sammy up a set of Sports Clocks,I already got a set they just need coding. Also got the vents and heated seat switches, just need the looms now. I also deceided that although the outside needs work the mk4 could most definatly benefit from an inside clean, hoover, et.So I got on the seats and gave them a heavy cleaning. They definatly need another going over tomorrow. And I fitted the vents and switches, cant wait to get my clocks in and everything wired up. The inside is looking really nice now and im really happy with it (just need to wrap the bits on either side of the dash that are silver), one thing that I do really want is a double din headunit, I think that will really finish it off nicely.

I was so on one today that I even managed to arrange my tools, anybody that knows me can tell you this cant be my tool box. Few snaps of how she is looking now:

Im going away next month to work about for a bit but after I will be trying to get bodywork done for edition38...but we will see.

Thanks for reading

Been a long time since I have updated so this is a bit of a mission but i have finally deceided to go for it:

heres how it sat:

We took off the wing mirror to spray up so it matched instead of it just being a rough black coat with no gloss. While we were at it I deceided to go at the side strips due to this being a bottom of the range mk4 in the beginning they have never been colour coded and were in that weird orange peel textured stuff. Sammy has his old strips due to his being smoothed so I sanded those down and we got to work painting them. Due to my car being 11 years old and these strips never coming off you can imagine the crap that was behind it!

Due to the intermittent weather we had to put the spraying and fitting on hold so we fitted some spacers on the back to give my car that more stanced and dumped look, another thing I have wanted to do for ages but hadnt got round to:

After we fit these we had to call it a night but this is how she looked that night, bit rough with all the glue from the strips but it was only for a week for I could deal with it:

I ordered some glass for the passengers side stubby mirror and it only cost £6, next day delivery so the next weekend I went back up sammys and we fitted the strips and the mirror. Chuffed to say the least, having them colour coded maybe standard for you GTi owners but mine have always been that horrible plastic and it makes all the difference on the car:

Next up was getting my engine looking back how it used to so I started sanding down a spare rocker cover and took off my boost pipe, spent a good couple hours on them to get them smooth using various sandpapers then some wet and dry ready for the polishing wheel....its all in the prep!

The boost pipe went on the wheel first and then I test fitted it, makes such a difference:

Buying these forge caps off Sammy too just having a little test fit, he has both sets so we can swap, think thew black ones would be best though and then fitted the rocker cover and all the bit. Also fitted some 6000k sidelight bulbs as I didnt have any in.

Gave the inside a hoover, really need to get my anni clocks coded and fitted though, the last part of the centre console was covered in carbon too so theres no more silver strips which makes it alot more complete

Next up was to sort my sounds out as I had a problem and it kept cutting out so picked up an alpine dvd unit from a mate; never seen so much wiring in my life for a headunit! I deceided to rewire my whole system as when I had mine installed initally they wired it all to the fuse box and its been causing me ag.....when I started I wish I didnt:

All fitted now and sounding much better, anybody need a headunit lol :D

We then made the rear bumper fit a bit better. I have now got the other two r32 grills which need fitting, front bumper is going to be painted within the next couple of weeks then I can fit the splitter and slam her to the ground. Here are a few pics of how she looks now.....much better with the strips and mirror on!

And a little video to show how she is running, she sounds amazing with that really raspy noise on boost from the r32 exhaust and a lovely airy turbo spool and noise from the front

Not a major update but still something that I am really chuffed about. Went round Sammys for sunday jam yesterday ended up doing some bits on the car (of course)

We now illumiated the bora vents (makes such a difference at night), illumiated the boost button, moved headlight switch to underside and put my boost guage into the headlight switch's factory place generally giving the cockpit a much tidier look. I didnt have the heated seat switches in the car at the time, looking for loom for these so they will light up and be fully functioning too  B)

Got a problem with my Sports clocks though, none of the LED's light up when I plug them in, any ideas?

Thanks  :)

I dont have the computer on these clocks, I have them on my Anni clocks but for some reason they dont illuminate so I cant put them in....REALLY annoying!
