Gti_Jamo's 1992 Mystic blue Mk3 Golf VR6
« on: 27 September 2012, 19:35 »
Picked this up yesterday....

Its no bad and is pretty clean for a 20 year old Mk3, 8 months mot. 17" Borbet C's, lowered slightly on springs, stainless exhaust from the downpipes, no cat. Came with recenty retrimmed seats which are half grey leather and the centres are blue suede.

It does however have a few problems. Its chucking out a bit of blue smoke after over run so I assume the valve stems seals are going. Gave it an oil and filter change today and its is a bit better. Its not loads of smoke but enough. The coolant temp isn't going above 75 degrees so will need to look at that. I think changing the thermostat will be the first thing to do. ABS light was disconnected as obviously is dosn't go off so will need to do something with that too. Needs some rear wheel bearings, front drop links, maybe a CV joint. Other than these things its a great car and sounds awesome. I was smiling all the way home in it.

Not keen on the borbets as would prefer a 16" fitment. Might try and swap them for another set. They are in reasonale condition with good tyres, three yokahama's and another brand I can't remember. Both rear wheels have had small cracks welded but looks a decent job.

Anywhere there she is, hope to put my own stamp on it. Want to get some coilovers as the ride on the springs is harsh. More updates soon.

I didn't even bother veiwing it but emailed the guy to get more info. He had it advertised on gumtree for 1250, I got it for 600 lol. The guy said the recent seat retrim cost 600 . Its soulds immense with the exhaust and no cat....its all pops and burbles and it fairly shifts too once it gets going.

He listed it on ebay with a reserve of 600, i bidded 700 but got it on the reserve so was happy. It was never worth 1250 to be fair. Take it you don't need the head off then? I'll do it myself so no need to pay anyone to do it. The stainless that is on it has one box just after the down pipes and then it straight through to the back box. Not sure if this thing needs a cat for its mot being an early 92 model (registered 1st of august). There is no decat pipe on it but had a lambda. Not need to worry about it for a while yet though. Their is a sweet spot at around 1500rpm when its real quiet but after after that its just a monster noise.
