Title: Nurburgring Prices and were to book
Post by: Hulmie on 11 July 2010, 19:04
Where's the best place to get details and prices on day passes for the Nurburgring? any website links?

Also what cost would it be is i was to drive over via eurotunnel, etc and stop over 2 nights?

Any info from someone that has already been will be appreciated.

http://www.nuerburgring.de/en.html

You buy per lap at 22 Euros per lap for a single lap, or increasing numbers of tickets, the more you buy the less you pay.... just remember each lap's 12.9miles long.

Martin Bird runs Burgstube hotel is about 1/4mile from the track entrance. http://www.burgstube.com/ - +40 Euros per night per person.

May also be able to do a deal on track tickets.

If you fancy more of an 'experience' stay at Bren's place in Dollendorf (20km from track entrance): http://www.slidersguesthouse.com/

(it's a *bit* bike-oriented, but Bren's a top guy and a great host.... two of the fastest guys ever on the track run it, too)

Brens is 30-something Euros a night per person, plus 4Euros for cooked breakfast..... and he sells Oettinger beer .  You'll need to have your evening meal elsewhere though (same as Martin's most evenings).

Pinnochios for pizza in Adenau - under 10 Euros

Pistenklaus in Nurburg for steak - over 25 Euros

Make time for spectating, as it's very much worth it and great fun.  You will also learn a lot about the track.  Also driving there, turn off at Eupen and pick up the 258 - it's a f*cking great drive to the place.

Cheers for that Diamond, think i will take your advise on Brens place.

Looking at going over next year and making a trip of it. You think £600 will be enough inc fuel for driving over?
Title: Re: Nurburgring Prices and were to book
Post by: Diamond Hell on 11 July 2010, 22:19
Depends on the cost of the ferry.

£600 + ferry, if you do 10 laps, and stay two nights, I think.

Going from Scun you should consider the cost/time involved Hull-Rotterdam vs Dover-Calais - compare the online booking prices.

Beer would be extra, of course.  I'd skip it - a weekend and a few laps, plus drink could be sub-optimal.

As an addition to those prices, camping is 11eur per day (that catches you out a bit, as your charged for whole days on your arrival / depature)

Its close to the GP circuit entrance, the facilities are clean and agreeable, but nothing fancy. Feck load of mosquitos though!

I recommend pizza at pinnochios with a litre of bitburger to wash it down with, they also do takeaway for journey snacks on the way home!

Your major expense will be petrol and laps, bear in mind petrol is in the 1.50 a litre range over there and the exchange rate isnt all that favourable at the moment.

It will be the time of your life.

You will need more than a weekend

You will be hooked.

Was thinkin about that Diamond as i have relatives that live just outside Rotterdam, so could stop over there a few nights

Camping is a big No No, but didnt think about petrol prices over there.

So things i need to consider

Ferry Prices
Petrol for travel
Accomadation costs
Ticket Prices
Food & Beer costs

Breakdown cover too

I have RAC cover already and think it inc's european breakdown.

Do you have to change anything on your insurance to drive on roads in europe?

Double check that :afro:

You have to notify them you're going abroad - whether or not they'll be extra charges I'm not 100% sure.  When I went to Le Mans 4 years ago I don't think I had to pay anything extra - they just extend your cover for 30 days - like a green card of sorts I think.

well my insurance is up for renewal very shortly so i will ask then about european cover.

Bear in mind ADAC is only 80Euros for all Europe and their contractor *should* recover from the 'ring if the worst happens.  Oh and if you're a member you can use them in the UK and the AA show up.

Who's your insurance with?  You NEED to check you policy document, as it's odds on you categorically WON'T be covered on the 'ring.  There are a couple of insurers who do cover it, but you need to not call up insurers asking 'am I covered on the 'ring' because the answer will be 'NO'.  PM me if you need any more info.

Camping in mountain regions is for yoof and the very hardy only.  I wouldn't recommend it - it gets very cold at night!

It will be the time of your life.

You will need more than a weekend

You will be hooked.

Chris-White - made in Britain, ruined in the Eifel.

Im insured through Adrian Flux at the moment.

That would have been another question as alot of recovery services in the UK wont recover you unless your a certain distance from a drag strip/race track.

If you have any useful info regarding anything to do with Nurburgring then i would appreciate it.

Is the track only open during certain periods of the year and times?

Do you need a Helmet to go on the ring? Guess i'll have to tape my front & rear lights up? what about wing mirror glass?
Title: Re: Nurburgring Prices and were to book

Do you need a Helmet to go on the ring?

No, but it's recommended you wear one.

But only if EVERYONE in your car is wearing one, or you could brain your mates in a smash.

Guess i'll have to tape my front & rear lights up? what about wing mirror glass?

No.  You're going for 'touristfahren' - tourist driving.  The more standard and boring your car looks the better in the marshals' minds.

even though i wanna get as fastest time as possible road the track i can still go as a tourist.

Do the track people take pictures of the cars going round? will be taking a mate with me just incase i want him to get some pic's of the cars.

Think i will get a helmet if i can find somewhere that will measure me head for one. Last time i put one on i got it on fine but then got it stuck getting it off, had ears like slougth off the goonies

If you're timing you shouldn't be out there, as you'll fast become a statistic.

Oh and it'll invalidate your insurance.

You're also not allowed to video or take photos in the car - it is strictly forbidden and you'll get banned if caught.

Just enjoy it, it'll cost a lot less.

join the forum at www.northloop.co.uk but DON'T post until you've done a lot of reading.  They're top folks on there but they're a bit serious.  You'll see there's a photo section where various snappers post links to what they took on specific days.  You'll normally be able to find yourself if you did a few laps on a day.

Opening times are shown on the website I already linked to, but please note they're subject to change.

i will porbably only be doing it once, so would like to think i did my best around the track without going to the limits as i want my car to come back in one piece.

I would get me mate to wait somewhere to take a picture of me going round
Title: Re: Nurburgring Prices and were to book

DON'T.

Although I suspect you're ugly, you'll be a lot uglier smashed up and dead.

Go watch the Astra VXR video a few times and think about what you want to do.

Seriously, don't push it.  Unless you have Hurdy levels of talent you're going to get smashed up.

a few mates of mine went out there on Bikes - one with the mindset of i wanna do my best,

His bike is still out in Germany, somewhere.

The others summed it up, even on the next 2 or 3 visits ( yep, they are hooked )

Its not about the Lap time, its about the WHOLE experience - :afro:

I went in may this year, absolutely awesome loved every minute of it, i only did 5 laps but spent alot of time walking round perving on all the motors and also driving on the surrounding roads.

There are photographers all around the track taking snap shots of you so you just need to find the right websites to find your pics.

We went from sheffield to dover got ferry to calais and stayed over at a cheap hotel then went straight to nurburg, had 2 nights at nurburg then drove back to brussels for 1 night to break the journey up then back to calais from there and back upto sheffield.

Ferry was £50 return with sea france
European breakdown cover was £52 with AA
F1 hotel was £29 in calais
2 nights in nurburg was £60 B&B
1 night in brussels was £35
Fuel was £260 for the lot 1330 miles including 5 laps of the ring
Ring tickets are roughly £20 a lap or £70 for a 4 lap ticket
Then basically whatever you spend on food and beer!

As others have said just be careful and enjoy it

These are some of the pics took of me by the random photographers track side.....

Buy ticket, put in barrier, away you go.  Check for 7-second ring king on Youtube.

Look for Touristfahren or TF

Read this: http://northloop.co.uk/newbies.htm

Watch some of these:

The breakdown cover was just for the dates I was abroad and no it wouldn't cover track recovery, not sure if you can prebook lap tickets we just paid on the day at the office bang at the side of the start barriers.

2 of my mates took bikes and only did one lap but were more than happy watching everything else as it's just a petrolheads paradise!!

Passing the barriers means you're taking a big risk.

How confident are you about the condition of your car?

This sort of risk is why I like running a nice simple set up, which I'm confident about...... even if it was only installed two days before going on track.

Drive within your and your car's limits.

mechanical wise the car is very good, as i do motorway journeys everyday, serviced regular and not running stupid power. Only got a K03s on a r-tech map running 230bhp and 256lb/ft torque. Which i believe is very reliable.

May I ask what this vxr vid is everyone apart from me knows about?

Is it on youtube?

Never noticed it was a few topics down, now found!

I would say the best bit of advice is to watch as many vids and play some xbox if you have it. It is by no way a substitute for the real thing but it can be helpful if you at least know what way the corner might go etc. Most of the corners on the Ring can be deceptive.

And also remember to check you mirror. There is always someone faster

Who you planning on going with mate?

I tell ya what I'd be worried about if I went for a spin on that track, brake fade.

Post by: nickvw on 12 July 2010, 19:27
Yeh definately worth upgrading your pads, i went with just standard r32 pads on that were part worn and tbh they were far from upto the job after 2 laps
Title: Re: Nurburgring Prices and were to book
Post by: bobbarley on 12 July 2010, 19:28
Even with mine upgraded to 312mm up front with EBC discs and pads I still think they'd fade before the end of the first lap!
Title: Re: Nurburgring Prices and were to book

Me and me m8 are on about going over in my car. Was thinkin about gettin ferry from Hull to rotterdam as its only 30-40 mins drive from me and then stop over first night at my familys just outside rotterdam and then next day drive to the ring, book in at hotel, next day go on the ring and stop over that night, next day head back to rotterdam.

if a few people are interested then would make plans to suit and go as a group, be more of a laugh

Then you're doing it wrong.

Look at the track videos.  There are probably under 10 points where you need a serious haul on the anchors, that's under one a mile. They are as follows:

Aremburg
Adenauer Forst
Kallenhard
Wehrseifen
Bergwerk

Errrrm, that's it, actually.

Your brakes have aeons of time to cool between any large braking points.  If you're cooking your brakes or tyres you really are doing it wrong.

mechanical wise the car is very good, as i do motorway journeys everyday, serviced regular and not running stupid power.

That means nothing.  Get in the bay and have a good check around all of the hoses etc and make sure everything is in REALLY good nick - not perished or rusty.

i'm by no means quick on the ring but,  for the most part you find your self useing the brake less and less every lap as you learn where that track goes
