£600 car. Suggestions Please!
« on: 07 April 2012, 17:02 »
Friend of mine has next to no money and her old motor (the revolting Suzuki Alto she's had) has finally rotted into oblivion and has thankfully been condemned by the garage

She doesn't have much money and doesn't know much about cars, and I have not got the time to fix things for her. She only does short-ish journeys so really only small cars will do. It just needs to be cheap to run, cheap to buy and cheap to fix if it goes wrong. Must have a long MOT & preferably some tax. Would prefer something as reliable as possible.

Whilst I realise that there aren't that many decent cars with T&T for under £600, that's all she's got to play with.

Went to look at a "tidy" Ford Ka today. Stevie Wonder had done the welding, and he hadn't noticed the shunt up the butt it had obviously suffered in the past. We left it there.

Suggestions please

PS No to a Mk3 GTi - they're too heavy on fuel & the mooring fees round here are astronomical - ideally needs to be 1400cc or under.

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

For that money, a Peugeot 106 Diesel ticks all boxes, cheapest to buy, run, service, mend, no rust, and plenty to choose from... but at all costs, avoid buying a KA of any year or price!
