Thanks mwad gti and Watts for the comments. Next time I clean it, I post up some pics of the interior.
I forgot to ask the obvious question.........looks aside, how do you like the Polo GTI?
I'm really enjoying it. It's the first petrol car I've had since 2002. The interior feels a bit like an updated, slightly shrunken version of the mk6 Golf; not quite up to mk7 Golf standards but still a nice place to be. There are one or two little things that are a step down in terms of Golf quality; the interior of the glovebox and the door pockets are hard plastic and not lined like they are in the Golf, but it still feels quite refined and grown up for a small car. It also fits my standard sized single garage with room to spare - I always had to be a bit careful with the Golf as it was quite a squeeze.
I've got the optional Sports Performance Pack, which has a Normal and Sport setting. Normal is the default, and the ride in Normal is firmer than it was in my mk6 GTD but it's not uncomfortable. The Sport setting is very firm, so I doubt I'll use it much, and not when I've got passengers! I particularly like the standard LED headlights; they're brilliant (pardon the pun!). I had xenons on my mk6 GTD and I think the LED's on the Polo GTI are better. Economy wise; currently getting high 30's, but I'm expecting it to drop a little, when I start to drive it a bit more enthusiastically, once I get a few more miles on the clock.
Negatives;
- the boot is small - the battery is in the spare wheel well with the space saver on top, so the boot floor is always in the raised position. Not a big problem for me though, but could be if you regularly carry passengers with luggage.
- No Dynaudio option (had this in my GTD), so I'm getting used to the standard audio sound.
To put a detailing slant on things;
- There are just as many water traps as there are on the mk6 Golf (grilles, mirrors, tailgate release). I'm thankful I've got my Metro Vac Sidekick Blaster, which disperses them quickly.
- Rear wheelarch liners; these aren't the 'carpet' type liners but hard, shiny plastic like the front ones, so they're easy to clean! A big plus
