Golf mk7 / Temps and other things to keep an eye on
« Last post by Ben7.5GTI on Today at 16:13 »
Does anyone know what the max temperatures on things like engine oil/coolant/intake are?

Started using the 'ontrack' app as something to have going in the background to keep an eye on things while I'm driving along but don't really know at what point I need to let things cool down.

I have seen 21.9lbs of boost on my is20 and from what I can find online they are safe to 24/26lbs.

Thanks Bill I wasn't aware of those, I'll give them a try tomorrow, still learning here after two plus years.
Also I think holding the steering wheel heating button in on your desired level remembers that level when you next switch it on.
Personally I never use it above level 1 anyway.

Just spotted a few useful tips on a YouTube review:

When the heated steering wheel is already on, you can tap and hold the button to switch it off without having to go through the other two heat levels first.

Another way to mute or pause audio is a quick press of the power button to the left of the heater controls

To minimise the detail on the speedometer screen you can press and hold the VIEW button on the steering wheel, this removes the left side and right side information but leaves the centre in view, press and hold VIEW again to revert to full information

You may already know these but I've had my car for 3 years and they are all new to me.   :nerd:

Golf mk2 / KR hot start idle issues
« Last post by cliveyp on 07 May 2024, 20:40 »
I’ve had my ‘90 16V for around 3 years now, and when coming out of its winter slumber last year I had an issue pop up that I managed to work around for the little bit of use it had - but this year I really want to use it more, which means getting on top of things.

When starting from cold, it runs a dream.  You can run it for 10 minutes or over an hour, and it seems to be fine….but if I switch it off and try to restart a short time later (say after a full-up or similar) it just will not idle.  It starts generally fine, but tickover is another matter.  I have to keep giving it a few revs to stop it from stalling.  This never clears.  The only way to stop it is to leave it to cool down before attempting to start it.

I’ve checked the ISV and this appears to be clicking in.  The inlet is all clean, and I’ve been round all the sensor connections checking condition and giving them a clean.  Nothing seems to solve it.  One thing I had done prior to this issue appearing was have the centre console out, which obviously meant I had moved around the idle control unit, but I’m 99.9% sure I had that all back together fine and would have expected any issue there to show up on a cold start too.

I’ve tried disconnecting the blue connector on the sold start valve/injector to see if that helps, and that did nothing.

Where is the next best place to look?

Golf mk7 / GOLF 7 RAINLIGHT SENSOR PROBLEM.PLEASE HELP
« Last post by Ricsi168 on 07 May 2024, 19:25 »
Hello guys!

I have got a 2014 golf 7, it has original rain light sensor with auto wipers from factory.
I noticed the wipers wont work automatically so i started to find out why, first of all i checked the fault codes and i found one fault witch is 934149-rain/light sensor wrong mounting position.after that i checked the sensor itself and it was bubbled up and cracked, i thought found the problem it was a sensor with 5q0955547 part number, i bought one feom a local guy its a used sensor but as he said its fine.
Assembled the new sensor with new gel pad managed to intall withouth bubbles or any damage it looks good.
Then i checked the fault codes and cleared the old code after that when i put the wipers in auto mode its just wipes like a normal non auto wiper...looked the codes again and the same fault code was in...but the light sensor works as it should if i block the light the headlight came on, when i put my hand away from the sensor headlights are off.

So my question is what does this fault code mean, how can i solve this.or is there any steps that i missing i mean maybe i have to reset the sensor or calibrate something like that.
I have pictures about the old and new sensor but i dont know how can i upload.

Thanks!

Golf mk7 / Re: Best Independent for work on MK7 CSS
« Last post by sjw on 07 May 2024, 14:49 »
Hi All

I posted a few years back (yeah, thread resurrection) looking for a great indie to service my CSS. The kind of place that does work properly and gives peace of mind.

I ended up having to take it to VW main dealer around the last time I posted as I couldn't justify a 400 mile round trip. I'm based near Cambridge so if anyone has any suggestions, be grateful for any recommendations.

I had thought of heading over to APS in Brackley, have an excuse to be in that part of the world. Does anyone have any views on them?

Thanks in advance.

Alex

I've always been happy with the work I've had done at Quattro-Tech St Ives, and they're an honest bunch of guys. They have a few branches

The one and only mod I’m doing to the Clubsport. In my opinion this is how the factory decals should have looked

Brilliant. I have located the sticker on Ebay - any tips on fitting it? Reason I ask is you might of figured out a good way to get it lined up etc.

Prep wise im thinking the usual wash process, decontaminate, quick clay bar on that specific patch then wondering if you did the wet fit process or not?

Epic job and I wish I had the stones to tackle a job like that.

I actually got some quotes for getting one fitted and best I could get was £550 - so it was a no for me!

As someone else said you could probably make a few hundred quid per one fitting a few of these.

Google reviews seem pretty good

70 4.9 star reviews on Google for APS, good reviews on Pistonheads too.

If you are based in Cambridge, Quattro Tech Cambridge 130 5 Star reviews?

Not used either myself, but I would either supply my own VW/trusted parts or check they do the same.

Thank you all for the feedback. I went with the PilotSport 5's in the end, influenced by the more positive reviews and the cashback offer. After the £50 back (I'm on 18's) a set of 4 was £373! A week in and it's already a noticeably nicer ride and much quieter.
