312mm Front Brake Upgrade
« on: 09 March 2009, 17:15 »
Hi Guys,

Its been a while :P

My car needs new brakes so I thought it was time to upgrade them.

I want 312mm with red callipers.

Can someone please assist me with a shopping list please?

I just have the standard brakes at the mo and my mechanic said he would fit the new ones if I supplied everything.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks I did find this http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=87778.0

But A) got confused and B) wondered if there were places like eBay to get the kit from (or is it not worth it) as the link was dead.

What would be ideal is:
1) Item 1 - Link - Price
2) Item 2 - Link - Price

It might sound lazy i just don't know what i need and want to get it right first time :)

Thanks,

CS

You need differant caliper carriers and a set of 312mm disc's.

I found it easier (although more expensive) to buy new calipers too. This way i could paint them off the car and then change them all over at once, rather than mess around cleaning up and painting the existing calipers on the car. There normally grotty and you can't get as good a finish. Had to do this with my rear's and it was a PITA.

I sprayed my front's with plastikote red.

I managed to get a set off disks for £25 off ebay, and some carriers for £70 so very very cheap upgrade. If you shop around for the 312mm it is a good set up, as the GTI not overly heavy in 1.8t mode 1236kg off the top off my head.
Not been left wanting so far in the brake department since the upgrade.
