Goodbye Aldi, Hello Skoda
« on: 07 February 2012, 14:12 »
Well time has come, 3yrs and 20 thousand miles of motoring, my Audi A4 is departing tomorrow.
It's now done just over 150K and I wanted something newer.

Here's how it looked when I got it:

It's replacement isn't VW, but it's still VAG.
It's a Skoda Octavia.

Pics to follow when I pick it up tomorrow.

Well, did the deal yesterday. Unfortunately it was too dark when I got home to take any pics, but snapped this one this morning.

I couldn't go from an Audi to a non-VAG car. Very happy with this.
Skoda Octavia Estate
1.6 FSI (ok small, but pretty rev happy and enough for my learner driver wife)
2007 with 40k miles.
It's got a decent spec
CD changer
Parking sensors
Heated mirrors.

It only has one problem, and that's with the boot load cover, but I'll fix that shortly.

Well I've only driven it about 20miles since getting it and most of that was at less than 40mph. But so far it's good. About as pokey as my old A4 1.8 non-turbo. Equipment levels are as good, if not slightly better. It's bigger too.
Desperate to get it out onto the open road and see how it handles when giving it some stick. From the driving I've done, it seems well planted, firm suspension, not too much body roll (considering the size).
Gear changes are good, seems to have quite a short shift actually.
Even the standard cloth seats are good, quite sporty and snug.

You could say I'm pleased with it. It's the newest and lowest mileage car I've ever had.

You going to get rad with the wheels or is it going to be a standard daily?

Thanks! I'm only 32!
It does have parking sensors, which I think is quite grandad-esque.

Afraid it's most likely to stay standard. I don't drive "daily", only managed about 6k in the last year.

It's pretty similar to the Passat really, about the same size inside, with a slightly bigger boot capacity (even though it's marginally smaller) but cheaper and without the silly electronic handbrake.
