Bola are popular with the BMW mafia.

I'd not seen the weights and prices before but now I understand why...

I notice that on the standard 18" alloys that VW seem to favour the Bridgestone Potenza Tyres but that on most of the 19" alloy wheels they are fitting Goodyear F1 tyres.

Does anyone have a view on this? :undecided:

I thought at the factory they take whatever is next on the line and so could be from two or three different manufacturers for the “standard” cars (not seen proof of the ability to specify tyre choice on the mk8 in the U.K.)

This thread may help...

Thanks, that's helpful.

My latest GTI is fitted with the Adelaide 19's and was delivered wearing Goodyear F1s. However, all of the GTIs, fitted with the standard Richmond 18's, that I have seen at my local dealership over recent months (and I have seen quite a few and spent a lot of (involuntary and unpaid) time there!) have been booted with Bridgestone Potenza 001s. Perhaps it was just a coincidence.

My last GTI was fitted with the Bridgestone's and they were absolutely fine, except in snow or in icy conditions, when they were bloody awful.  They were most definitely tyres not suited for driving in wintry conditions and, for the first time in my life, I even contemplated buying a set of winter wheels last year. I don't ever recall driving on a set of Goodyear tyres, so it's a brand new experience for me. Fortunately, it will be another six months or so (hopefully) before the question of winter wheels and tyres raises its head again.

Regarding increasing alloy size, do you have to get the speedo recalibrated or is the difference negligible?

Depends on what you are changing and by how much. Choose the correct tyre size and the difference will be negligible.
