i currently have to use the carble with all the multi coloured phono plugs on,
i have tried i think in the past to use a hmdi cable and plug the headphones into the back of the tv but didnt get any sound?

my wireless turtle beach 'phones (X41) take the sound from the xbox's digital optical audio port to the wireless base, so it receives proper 7.1 & 5.1 sound. I think you might be stuck with the original wiring unless you look at turtle beaches website, they do a 5.1 converter for it, but that would use digitial optical and not HDMI:

I don't think a semi will give the same results

depends on the set you have, I think when plugged into the headphone jack, you need to change it to "play voice through TV and headphones"

should work then :)
