Scrap that! Just noticed that Euros price is for a far more basic spec than the UK would get, I.E 17" wheels, no tints etc. Looks like we are looking at at least £42k then

Golf mk8 / Re: Is this the latest software

I'm still on 1899 and haven't seen an OTA update of any kind for a long time.

How can I check if my privacy settings still allow OTA updates?   I haven't changed anything (but, as we all know with VW software, that doesn't mean that no changes have taken place!)

The very quick way is to look at the online icons at the top right of the screen.
So long as you don’t have the little head wearing the ‘in disguise’ hat you should have sufficiently relaxed settings to allow VW to locate and send new software to the vehicle.

@SRGTD - typical VW!  :angry:

Hmm interesting! Thanks for sharing.

Just spotted this article regarding pre-sales and starting price stated is 44,505 Euros which equates to just over £38k. So, I'm wondering if they will actually try to keep the base price below the £40k in the UK.

VW pads or aftermarket??

Im gonna guess the pads are moving in the carrier.

Try reversing slowly and gently braking to a stop, then drive forward and brake, is the noise happening then??

I think the R is a bit of a victim of it's own success. There are loads around.

The S3 might be an option of you wanted a less common alternative?

As for us I would consider the S3 simply because we already have the Golf GTI and an R is a bit too similar in looks.

The S3 also comes as a saloon which i prefer the look off compared to the 5 door hatch.

Surely the replaced wheel has its own warranty?

Under VW’s new car factory warranty, items replaced during the warranty period are only warrantable up to the expiry date of the warranty. From the warranty T&C’s on VW’s website;

’Any part which is replaced becomes the property of Volkswagen. Any replaced parts are covered for the unexpired period of the vehicle warranty.’

Nice one Andy.  I've had a brief play and already gone over 50k euros without really trying.

Hard to believe that you'll get a acceptable UK spec car for less than £47k-£48k.

I'll buy second-hand thanks!!

Hi

Just taken my weekly look at German Volkswagen site. We are in luck.

https://www.volkswagen.de/de/konfigurator.html/__app/der-neue-golf-2024/sportliche-modelle/gti.app?---=%7B%22configuration-step-navigation-service%22%3A%22%2F%3FconfigStep%3D%257B%2522context%2522%253A%252230602-34427-GTI%2522%252C%2522selectedStep%2522%253A%2522exterior%2522%257D%22%2C%22filter-service%22%3A%22%2F%3FengineType%3DBenzin%22%7D&category-app=private&carlineId-app=30602&salesGroupId-app=34427&trimName-app=GTI&modelId-app=DA19ZZ%24GYOSYOS&modelVersion-app=6&modelYear-app=2024

Hopefully this link will take you straight to GTI configurator but remember this is German site, so this won’t be the UK spec car eg we always start at 18inch wheels and they are bound to include IQ Matrix lights.
So no need to tick every box and then rail at the price you get.

As a marker the pre facelift GTI in German started at 40905€ so it’s increased by approx 3500€
I know it’s been discussed before on here but seems to be heading for £42-44k starting price in UK.

As Fred has already mentioned, think UK orders etc will be July time

Enjoy

Isn't the S3 basically the same car?

Things like suspension settings (some have mag-ride) and other details may be different but underneath the skin they are fundamentally the same.

I was looking at S3's myself as a more sensible alternative to my M140i.

Never driven an S3 but from what understand it is basically the same car, but apparently the drive set up is not as keen as the R and so its a little less engaging, though you do imagine that its only for those who drive more spirited than most who would notice.

Have had Audi though, and interior is a little bit above the Golf in material, but I actually prefer the layout of the MK 7, not big fan of the pop up screen on Audi, but thats a subjective opinion only others may really like it.

Replaced the original orange dipstick with the new yellow version after one of the small tabs broke.

I note the orange version has problems with becoming brittle.
