Post by: TheRaven on 20 November 2008, 15:23
Hey guys, need a bit of help from you expert detailers!

My car is supposed to be tornado red, but it is a horrible pinky colour!

it was like that when I had it and I want to know the best and most effective way of getting it back to best!

Also effective ways that don't cost the earth!!!!!!!

I will try and put a pic up but the internet is being stupid at work!

You have what is commonly known as 'tornado pink' syndrome. They pretty much all go like that if the paintwork is left unpolished for any length of time. The answer is simple, get some good quality polish and use it regularly. A wet t-cut will work wonders to bring back the shine initially before the first polishing.

Yep a mop is a more professional version of my aformentioned wet t-cut. Get that done then keep it polished AT LEAST once a month and you might keep the pink at bay. It's a well known fact that there was a problem with a certain pigment in red paints of that era, a lot of bmw's of similar age suffer aswell.

What is the best thing to polish it with?

your paint has oxydized due to lack of protection  if your going to do it by hand i would suggest not using t-cut as it will make shed loads of mess and is a mission to work with.chemical guys/poor boys/sonus do much better polishing compounds which are well worth the dosh, get yourself some sealant and some good wax to protect your car and stop this happening again

Buy the best/toughest wax you can afford to limit the problem, but you will never cure it unless you get a re-spray with modern paint.

Mopping won't cure a thing, it'll just last a bit longer. See Chuffs motor for one thats been fixed.

Bodykit? Dont show up on your pics!

Plus if you are having paintwork done you may as well get bonnet seen to at same time!

You don't need to waste your money on mopping, I have used colour t-cut from turtlewax and then seal it with Mer. Works a treat. Just need to put some effort in to it to get the results.

Before

After

Good luck with it, but it is pretty easy tbh.

Well done there. I had a tornado red 8V which had a pink roof. The rest was fine, just the roof. Always polished out but had to stay on top of it, so to speak!!

Sorry, nothing got posted then. Just wanted to say that i used to have a tornado red 8V that had a pink roof. Nothing else was pink, just the roof. It would polish up great but i had to really keep on top of it regularly.

TBH I wouldn't waste my money on mopping but my mates brother is doing it, hes gonna mop it, full valet inside and outside and service it for £50. Cleaining the sparks, changing oil etc etc!

So for £50 I can't complain!
