VW wanted £42 for 5 litres, so I got this one for half the price, and it is made to VWs spec:

On the O2 side of things exactly, the sensor itself might be fine. A lot of the time the O2/lambda just reports what it’s seeing, so if the engine was running rich because of the PCV issue or a small air leak, the sensor will throw codes even though it’s not actually faulty. So I wouldn’t jump straight to replacing them unless the codes specifically point to them.
DV is absolutely worth your time. If it’s the older diaphragm style, even a tiny split can cause the noise you’re describing without killing the power. Car can still feel quick, but trims go weird.
As for the MAF yeah, they can cause rich/lean issues and weird trims, but they don’t usually cause single-cylinder misfires like you had with P0303. A dirty or failing MAF normally gives:
- Hesitation
- Poor throttle response
- Weird idle
- Odd fuel trims
Sometimes no codes at all
If you do clean it, just make sure you ONLY use proper MAF cleaner and don’t touch the sensor wire. But personally, I’d only bother if the issues return. Right now the PCV replacement alone would have changed airflow readings a bit, so the trims need a bit of time to settle anyway.
For now, keep an eye on it DV check + smoke test if anything comes back is still the best plan.

« Last post by 2007GTI on 02 December 2025, 21:05 »Update, I had the heater matrix replaced and it has cured my issue, heater blowing hot on all vents and even before car is fully up to temp. So I am very happy as this has been going on for ages.
Mechanic charged me 6.8 hours labour, which he said is the book price, and he is £50 per hour, then a bit on top for flushing etc.
I bought a third party matrix as I needed it quick and GSF could get me this one same day, which was fine:

FYI mine was denso type.
It didn't come with new clamps and O rings, old ones were shot, but local stealer had them in stock for £25, cheaper than ebay and same day.
Picture below of old one with the brown gunk, not as bad as that Youtube link, but still not great.

I found them quieter, more compliant and confidence inspiring in the twisties.
They honestly feel like a more advanced 4 or 4S before Michelin decided to make the 5 out of concrete to increase longevity and particle emissions.

I guess that's because they are already discounted? I'm sure I saw somewhere that Black Circle is owned by Michelin, may be mistaken?

Surprised by this seeing that I wouldn't buy anything but Michelin for years.
