Big hand to Black GTI!!!

He recommended http://www.gsfcarparts.com - just downloaded their catalogue and they have them: ?76.50 + VAT per side = ?179.78

Inc delivery that's ?189.12... just saved me ?110!!!

They actually have them in stock too, so might even pop around later today... when I called up their Heathrow branch I specifically asked "and are those the genuine Hella parts, not equivalents" to which the sales person replied, "yes, genuine Hella 'Mk4 look' headlamps for the Mk3 Golf".... shoul dhave recorded that one 'co sI'm sure they'll be equivalents - that's nearly HALF the Hella RRP! Everybody advertises Hella and then actually has In-Pro or something like that...

... ^^^ Lostbok

Just thought I'd post that as some people think all I do is piss and moan!  :D

I wouldn't say recommending GSF to anyone is doing them a favour  ::)

I have had a lot of experience of GSF, mostly poor.
I wish others listen.
Don't buy from GSF.

WTF?

Those headlights are made by HELLA ... they'll come in a HELLA box... so hes got nothing to worry about cos HELLA make excellent headlights! (except the standard mk3 ones)

YES, so are the BOGE suspension kits, they come in a BOGE box and are supposed to be O.E. quality.
Believe me they are not.

they done a program on tv about that enit??  ???

Yeah there was a program that did feature GSF and the managing directing refused to comment. This was back in 1999.
All i am saying is if something appears to be too good to be true then it is.
GSF sell plenty of 'o.e.' quality parts, believe me they are not.
Its up to you lot, its your cash.
Personally i feel i have peace of mind if i go to the main dealer.

I feel better knowing I've bought my bits from the dealer even if they do cost a few quid more.

I bought my Quad Headlight conversion from Eurocarparts .. which are similar to GSF ... and the service and the parts were first rate!

I can't speak for Euro car parts, but i have had many bad experiences with GSF, and i am not the only one.

Ok, well I'll say this:

I've dealt with Eurocarparts (Stuart Tunstall direct phone call) and they are superb. Cant fault them!

I haven't dealt with GSF... but if it states HELLA then it must be, otherwise its false advertising and illegal...  thats all I can say.

I know what you mean.
It seems to me that the boge products that GSF sell are boge but could well be parts that have been rejected on the production line.
I have no hard evidence of this, just a suspicion, as i have seen a few boge kits from GSF that a certainly not main dealer quality.
BOGE are the original supplier to vw.

i'm drunk, in charge of a keyboard. well not that drunk, but drunk enough to boreyou to death.

I bought a the timing crystal (the bit under the drivers wiper blade on a mk2 that does the pulses to the distributor??!) to replace a crystal which was going faulty. apparently a full kryton tune (or whatever its called) can show you the unit breaking down, and in time its worth replacing.

So, i replaced it with a Lucas part from GS, they were werent F at the point.

Unfortunately, i broke the original VW part getting it off after getting the new unit. No matters, shoved new Lucas part on.

Instantly car developed a mis timing over 5.5k rpm. 5.5k became 5k in one day and within 3 days was down to 4k.

Took the part back to GS, and they swore blind it was okay.

Took the car to my mechanic, told him the story. He had the car for a week and checked (apparently) every electrical component to find the problem.

After 4 days, a mate brought an 8v to his garage anfd they swapped timing units to see if that cured the problem. Lo and behold - my car was fixed.

Lucas/GS part = 40 quid
VW part = 120 quid
My garage screwing arounf = 270 quid

1) i never used GS again
2) i never used that garage again, despite being a loyal customer for 4 years again either.
3) buy the part over the VAG counter.

Life is cheaper and simpler in the long run. And when the VAG counter get it wrong - you can shout at them.

Its up to individual really, as its your money.
Personally i have seen too much sh!t from GSF.
It also depends if you want to keep your car, if you do then i strongly recommend going to the main dealer.
The way i see it is, if you do it yourself, labour is free so why worry about paying extra for parts?

im gonna use proper vw parts now for my 16v, but i dont really care if my air filter isnt genuine vag you know what i mean.

my other golfs was a driver and a ryder so i didnt care as much if they died cos they were high mileage anyway
