The instant torque at any time (never in the wrong gear) is great, even if there's faster cars on the road

Whatever you drive there’s always some nutter faster than you!
In today’s road conditions it’s more about what little tactile satisfaction is left from overly sanitised but increasingly sophisticated machines. I’m quite looking forward to going EV in a few years. I’d quite like to take an ID on for a few days shakedown if VW do a 24 or 48 hour test drive promo at some point.

Anyway, back on topic, I can’t think of too many things I’d want to change with VCDS so haven’t used my cable in years, I didn’t even attempt any changes on my TCR. Things have moved on since the mk6 days where there were so many ‘hidden’ activations you could perform. Most of the current gen cars have menus to activate those little tweaks anyway. The challenges left are probably more pro level where an incompetent amateur like myself would be out of my depth.

The tokens...you need to generate one from the vw geko system.

Basically you can't.

Read my post about sfd on here for more information...

I'm surprised this approach doesn't bring VW under scrutiny for anti-competition/consumer EU regulations. Once these cars go out of warranty, if you have need of a repair that's software based, you'll be at the mercy of the dealerships rather than going to your local independent VAG specialist garage. I thought the EU would be all over that.

Actually, quite the reverse... its because of EU regulation EU858 / 2018, which came into force in September 2020.

I wrote a whole load of stuff about SFD on here when I first encountered it...

The lane assist deactivation/memory is something that would greatly interest me for my CS so hopefully I can find someone with a cable who I can buy a beer for to try it for me, if it's confirmed it can be done on the Mk8.

Other things I would like to know about are:

Stop/start deactivation (adjusting the voltage like offer cars) or a memory seeing to remember period journey

Aircon synch on/off, default to on our mirror previous journey

If anyone knows about any of these I'd be very grateful for info on.

Thanks all in advance

Aircon synch on/off, default to on our mirror previous journey

Is this not software version related? Mine doesn't Sync it annoys the hoop out of me but other drivers with later software (1668 compared to my 1666) appear not to have this issue

I am on 1664 and have no issues, to fix a fault they don’t have to upgrade all of the software eg...1666 to 1668 just the faulty bits, trick is that the tech needs to know how to do it,guess I got lucky as I’ve had no faults for 7 months since they updated the bits needed.

I am on V1666 and it currently defaults to synch off, but wanting it to default to synch on. Are you saying that V1668 changes this do that it defaults to synch on? If so roll on Tuesday when the car should be upped to V1668

Same here, going from 1666 to 1668 didn’t fix.

I've finally got around to trying the lane assist tweak.

Seems to have worked... At start up it's set however you previously set it. No more pre flight checklist!

Hurrah!
