Title: i am 19 and not sure about this quote
Post by: Mikester on 30 October 2007, 22:57
Ok, im 19, i have NO no claims. I am wanting to insure a mk3 1997 gti 8 valve 2litre. Bell quoted me £1317 which actually works out at £1900 with pay monthly, this gives me legal cover, audio cover, and also 3rd party on other cars. Is this a good deal. Its the cheapest i have found but i have no asked AF or this HIC yet. Am  wasting my time trying to find cheaper?

Any comments would be greatfully recieved.

Thanks Mike :D

if its fully comp and your're the policy holder it does sounds quite good considering the car and the age of the owner

However check the cover to drive other vehicles - AFAIK on comprehensive policies bell don't include this for anyone under the age of 25 unless it is specified on a flexibell policy

Also the 10monther bonus thing aint accepted by most insurance companies.

but yeh try and pay it off in one go if you can - they are making over 500 notes just by you paying monthly!

Personally wouldnt even entertain adrian flux :)

The £1300 sounds reasonable and having the driving other cars is something that you will probably find very few other companies will offer but the interest on the instalments seems very high!

Whats the value of the car? How long have you been driving? Was that comp or tpft?

Its TPFT and i have been driving a year n half, i think its a pretty good price, btu i cant afford to pay it off in one go at the moment, so its crazy paying that much interest. I would be more happy paying more for the policy, if a company offered less interest. But the drive other cars is actually specified, and that would mean i could drive my dads cars, which is good. Its £170 a month insurance, and athough i can afford it pretty simply, as im at home, thats a lot of beer money down the drain! lol

i think im going to grin and bare it, in the end, any other company wont insure me that cheap, so it has to be a deal, and i will probably pay it of early on my credit card, to cut of a load of interest :D deal done :P insurance on the 29th of november! woop

Have you tried putting your parents on?

Have you tried putting your parents on?

kinda illegal if you put them as the main driver and the insurance may not let you claim. I found that adding my parents under my name pushed it up slightly with most insurers because they do a named driver only discount type of thing.

I was under the impression that having a parent as a second driver brought the price down, not up.

nah some companys give that sort of discout. Cant remember which one, but it actually had in small under the number of drivers bit *Having more than one driver may increase your premium

Fair enough... didnt work for me anyways. I wouldnt want my mum driving my car anyway... shes got a 1.2 and couldnt handle a 1.6

Funny how i could get insured on her SEAT Ibiza for less than mine. (Thats with the value of her car set to £7000 and mine set to £500)

dec try admiral man, also putting a male as named driver can sometimes be worse...women drivers always seem to get cheaper quotes which is rubbish.. something like 90% of womens accidents are into stationary objects!?!? dont hold me to those figures tho!

if they are on it, and i drive it all the time, its just another reason for them to pull out, insurance will take away the umbrella and find any hole not to pay up. Read back through this thread! :P

not as named drivers but putting them as the MAIN driver is if they really arent the main driver i.e the car is registered under a 17 year old but the parent is the main driver on the policy
Title: Re: i am 19 and not sure about this quote
Post by: Mikester on 18 November 2007, 22:42
indeed, when i added mine to my quote with bell (the cheapest so far) they just wanted more money. So its not always the way.

I was also wondering, as i have 3rd party on other cars, as in not in my name cars, if i got another, and left it in my dads name on the v5, would i be insured? surely i would.

yeh mikester there aint jack illegal bout having parents as named drivers on your policy! we have 4 cars at my house so gettin the car nearest the house out can be a hassle with 2 or 3 behind so they will use mine, nothin illegal about that...

sorry if it seems lke im having a rant, jst dont wanna seem like im doin something wrong

Car is worth around £1000 just under probably, i been driving a year, no NCM, TPFT But they want to charge me £1900 with interest, so £1300 for the policy, then £600 INTEREST, Could HIC Beat this, With the pay monthly interest??

I resorted to putting a quite high excess which made the insurance lower but if i have an accident it works out no more than with no vol. excess in total

Came to £1867.56 fully comp

Thats still huge ammounts of money to insure what I asume is your £300 1.6

When I say its lots, I mean its goings to be the same everywhere, insruance companies are a total joke. You pay all this money, and then when it comes to claim time, they try every trick in the book to get out of paying, bunch of tossers.

As you can see, I dont like insurance comapnies.

very true

i feel robbed

Insurance is very expensive for younger drivers for good reason. I agree that some of the quotes for younger drivers seem extortianate, however i can see it from the other side too. Insurance companies are business after all who have to make money, very few companies will make much, if any, money out of young drivers as the amount paid out for claims is overall often equal/more to the premium taken in.

When i was looking for quotes i realised that i havent paid to insure my car at all mearly just repair someone elses if i hit it :undecided: thats how i see it anyway.

I am however fully comp but my cars just going to get written off if it gets damaged

Fully comp saves the hassle of third party as some of my friends have had to do alot of chasing up after an accident

I know what you are saying but it really depends on how much you save. My personal opinion is that if the cost of the insurance is a lot more than the value of the car then there is little point paying the extra for Comprehensive, as you said the cover will pay for the damage to any car you hit on third party or comp and you could just save the money you saved on the insurance to put towards repairing/replacing your own car.

Other factors to consider are also that as well as the initial cost of the policy, on Comp there will normally be an accidental damage excess to pay, you will lose your ncb + probably have to pay extra in the future as a result of having lost your no claims and having made a claim so the cost of claiming any damage to your own car would probably far outweigh the cost of the damage itself hence i would only be worried about any damage to a third party.

If you have legal cover then they should do any chasing for you.

I hope that makes sense and like i said that is only my own opinion, its totally up to you what cover you choose.

indeed, your better of with fully comp, but its not alawys worth the cost for the car you drive, but for only £100 more, why not.

Have you tried Swinton Specialist or Brentache they gave me really good prices and the best thing about Swinton was only 11% interest and a small deposit just one of 11 payments.

Give them a bell you never know.  0800 781 8400.
