VCDS is what used to be called VAG-COM.

In short, it's software and a lead that plugs into the diagnostic port and allows you to do what the dealers can do and more from a laptop. Ross-Tech in the USA are the company that produce it. Gendan are the main UK distributors.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I bought some so called genuine ones off ebay and they went dull and cloudly within a few weeks in winter. I bought some genuine ones from TPS for around £25 a set and they still look like new 3 years on.

Had the insurance engineer out to assess the front bumper this morning. At first he couldn't see the damage until I pointed it out. He said that they normally wouldn't approve a new bumper skin for something so minor, but as he could see that I looked after my cars, in this instance it should be done right.

I had told him that I'm sure many "approved" bodyshops would just pack the bumper out behind the number plate screws with washers and say "that'll do" and that the customer would never know. He gave me a knowing look and smiled. I've done alright, but it's as wrong as hell that so much shoddy repair work is deemed to be acceptable as most people wouldn't give it a second look.
