Nest Newbie. Mk5 5 door
« on: 05 March 2008, 09:50 »
Hi all, just found you guys via a link from another VW site, have just bought the car after a Renault Clio Trophy as I needed a more practical (but still fun to drive) car.

The missus loves the Golf too, which makes for an easier life!

Will use the search function but if anyone can shorten my search time the only issue I currently have is with the inbuilt VW phone system.

Have the dash mounted car kit (factory fit one) but as I suspect others have mentioned the list of phones is a bit limited and I am wondering about changing it to a bluetooth system.

Can I use a large part of the wiring which is already installed to save me rewiring everything, and will I have marks in the dash when I remove the handset holder. Or is the smart way to change the cradle and make sure the missus and I have the same handset????

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Will set to work reading about all the stuff I haven't even decided I need until now!

Welcome to the forum

May I suggest posting that in the Mk5 section? You could probably get more help there.

As far as I know a few people who have removed the cradle have been left with 2 drill wholes in the dash

But Im not sure about anything else. If you want to do a bluetooth install, a Parrot or something kit install there is a full detailed DIY in the Maintenance section that was put up by "The Doc" ages ago that could help.

I'd try and rehash the existing holder and match up your phones as you said

Oh and get over to the MKV section as there are a lot of peeps who could give you info in there :nerd:
