Title: Black VW badges - Front Now Fitted
Post by: Megy_CS on 06 June 2021, 00:17
Hi all, first post (except in the newbie intro section)

Just wondering if anyone has found any black VW bonnet/boot badges to replace the chrome ones.

When I get my car I will be wanting to fit black badges but if non are available I would consider wrapping the original badges.

Any thoughts anyone?

TIA

Your front badge has the radar behind it... Be careful what you do....

Ah right, so it's it not a replacement plastic clip on badge like the older cars? I've not seen one so thought the ACC thing was in front grill as on the mk 7.

From the mk7.5 onwards its behind the badge. That's not to say that you couldn't do something different with it but...

Also on the mk8 it's totally flat. It's not a raised badge any more....its a vw logo on a curved surface, as is the one on the steering wheel.

You can buy vinyl skins for to black the badge out here.
Doesn’t affect the ACC radar.

Black on a black background? Hmmm

That shouldn't mess with the radar though.

My badge has a few stone chips already so a sticker might be quite nice to cover it.
I quite like the look of the sill covers and sun visor sticker via that link to mk8crew.

Yeah, there’s a couple of nice little bits on there.
I liked the rear reflector hexagonal stickers

Thanks for the heads up, ordered the front and rear badges, didn't see a steering wheel one, but will take another look and order when I go for the reflector cover. I also went for the black GTi front grill and boot lid badges too, not sure if they are full badges or just vinyl for the text, I think I must be going for the stealth look with it being a black car too 😉.
Anyone know where to get a tint for the mirror indicators also?

Do you need to remove the badges to fit the vinyls? Does come with instructions?

No instructions ,which is a bugger... I need to find someone who has done the mod..
For the front at least it looks like I would need to remove the badge to stick on the vinyl and trim it ....

Have you fitted any of yours yet?

I've fitted the rear and it doesn't fit very well at all and the circle doesn't cover anywhere near even half the badge Chrome section.

As for the front, not too keen on having to remove the badge too then for it so it wraps around, hence asking if you're done yours, see if that's house you did it and if it went ok?

So after a bit of deliberation, and watching the video on how to remove the badge a few times I took the plunge and fitted the front dechrome decal.

I didn't do a perfect job, the base decal had a few lumps and I put a small crease in the top decal but only really visible if you look closely.

I have done the back too but messed it up and do am getting a second decal, the guy is going to slightly rework it for a better fit, hopefully it will be, I'll let you know.

Thoughts anyone?

I asked for that I guess, lol. My psycho bunny PJ's cut down to shorts, some people don't know a thing about fashion, me I guess 🤣🤣🤣

I like them though

Need a shot from distance! Wouldn’t want it to just look like someone’s knocked the badge.

Not for me.... tbh with the new style logo its already pretty "stealth".... its not like ye olden dayes of a chromed beastie boys necklace on the front.

Was the badge easy to remove? I was thinking of just tinting the badges to knock them back a bit

I'm with Fred on this one the original is better. Looks like its bubbly too, modding for mod's sake.

I like the trousers however that is a good modification you've done there. Yes I'm being serious.

Yes it was. There is a YouTube link at the bottom of page 2 on this thread that shows how to do it.

I'm not too keen on the look of these and prefer the ones that suit proud like the mk 7. I've seen some but not sure if they interfere with the ACC or not.
