hi all,
Car registered march 2019, engine code DKTB, I'm planning on doing an interim DIY oil change, I'm old fashioned and 18K miles on the same oil just isnt right.
handbook says 508 or 504 spec oil
according to the history car has had 3 oil changes, only one change mentions the spec 0w20 - thats 508, correct?
508 seems to be rarer and £££'s compared to 504. So I'm going to put 504 in it.
Propaganda on the interweb suggests the 508 spec was only to eek a few more mpgs out of the engine.
Any advice or guidance much appreciated.
Colin.

Can't talk for the 2019 engine, but in my 2014 PP GTI I always used this;

The LL seemed to offer a bit more bang per buck in terms of protection/cleaning properties, and it frequently came up in Costco at a decent price. Opie also do decent offers usually for a changing kit, however the quantity was an odd one (5.6L). I changed at 8-10k religiously and in my 7.5 years of ownership the engine has never had an issue. It met the 507 / 504 and old 503 spec as well.

I’ve used Millers Nanodrive Motorsport 5W 40 for the past couple of years on the advice of local Indy. Also religiously change oil every 6 months.

Just add my bit.
I've only had my car yearly serviced at VW and from one of the invoices they mistakenly gave me before I told them I had a service plan they used;
Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 0W-30 - which is 504.00/507.00
Interestingly the Shell 1 litre top-up bottle I bought looks exactly the same as the genuine VW bottles they sell.

Also have had mine only serviced at VW and they use Shell Helix Ultra Professional as well. Interestingly, they used 5w30 until last year when they switched to 0w-30. I did query it with them and they said that is what VW now recommends. The W rating probably doesn't matter much with the mild winters we have here.

so I went with 504 spec Castrol Edge. 4l can = £35.
4l of Castrol Edge 508 spec was £50. Prices from Halfords.
