Title: Sonus Polishes - Are they any good?
Post by: SteveP on 02 August 2008, 22:25
Been considering investing in a PC, seen the kit on autopia that including the sonus polishes and pads, I have read good things on the pads but not sure on the polishes, are these worth the money?

Also there is a guy selling the PC inc transformer and adapter cable for £180 delivered, it this a reasonable deal?

Finally, other than a set of the 4" Sonus spot pads is there anything else you guys would recommend as part of a starter kit?

i would say that looking to purchase from the US or getting something that has a transformer etc is going to be a bit of a pain in the arse...

why not think about getting a meguiars 220  - good value for money and if you are just starting off then it is a good machine to learn with

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/index.php?cPath=71 (http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/index.php?cPath=71)

polishes... menzerna are good polishes and megs do good polishes too

Thanks Shaun, I think I remember a post about that before this forum broke a couple of weeks ago, the figures have got a bit better since then but it still plays a bit on my mind. But on the other hand if I import a PC and that fails then its going to be much harder to return this for repair.

Decisions Decisions.  :undecided:

I think thats the kit for me then (plus the masking tape and some more pads).

Next I could do with some suggestions for a good sealant?

Also are different wax's better with different colour cars, if so do you have any recommendations for Steel Grey?

What this "ZFX Flash Cure Accelerator" thats listed with the Z-2 on usage instructions on cleanyourcar.co.uk?

Zaino seams to have most complicated product range I have seen

Thanks for the help and putting up with my continual questions Shaun.

P.S. - I will post an update to the speed cameras database in a couple and PM you a link.

well, you add it to the z2 to make it last longer, i personally would just get the zaino all in one, then top off with zaino z8 , you can use the zaino cs too , basically this kit http://www.pro-detailing.co.uk/index.php?p=223&c=22

oh and nice one with the updates

Final question, I think as a starting point I will get a pro to detail the car first which should hopefully help me pick-up some practical experience, any recommendations for Northamptonshire/Milton Keynes Area?

The guy at cleanyourcar highly recommends them and says they sell like hot cakes.

For this first proper clean the wheels are coming off to get a good coat of poorboys wheel sealant.  :nerd:

OY!
I resemble that remark!

More detailing stuff due to be delivered soon, so photos will follow.

Oh plus I took the wheels off again to paint the brake disks, cleaned them with a wet MF cloth, the dirt came off sooo easy, that Poorboys wheel sealant is a good product.

I also have the Zaino Z2, Z6 and Z8, I recently did my old daily driver, a 7 year old Golf 1.4, what a difference! The bodywork feels really smooth and the paint looks wet. It really is good stuff. I havent tried the ZXF or Z2 yet, will give it a go this weekend weather permitting.

tis isn't it... i think you can also use it on your calipers if you have cleaned them up too!

the brush thing might be a little much for the wheel sealant as it might remove it... I use a very soft wheel brush on mine with only bilt hamber auto wash now and the wheels clean up luvvely!

i found with a spikey one like the one you have either I, or the paintwork, or both... tends to end up covered in dirty spots where the bristles flick the dirty water about

I know what you mean Guy but this one is surprisingly soft, it mainly for getting to the back of the rim only, for around the spokes and the face of the wheel I use a micro fibre bobbly wash mitt I got a few of from Costco.

I'm using Zymol Carbon at the moment, its hard work to use but lasts quite well and smells and looks great. I also have some Zaino ZFX, Z2, Z6 and Z8 and have given it a go on my old Golf, really does look good  182_Blue recommended it, and he knows his stuff.

Zymol products are very good, but expensive. TC had his car detailed usimg Zymol, you can see how good a result he had, but it costs! If you do get some Zymol, it makes sense to buy a starter kit, just over £100 and you pick which colour car you have. Carbons for dark coloured cars.

I get mine from Monzacarcare, great service.
