could someone please explain the sunroof thing??
« on: 17 July 2004, 11:38 »
i keep seeing ads for mark 1s without sunroofs and then some say not glass.

whats the real benefit of not having one?   is it because they leak, are weaker, are lighter/heavier.  are there rules about sunroofs on track cars and stuff   ???

thanks guys and gals  :-*

i think they are rarer without sunroofs. it may also add strength to the chassis too but not sure on that 1.

i was hoping for a better reason than that dizzie.  having a cab makes a sunroof in the summer kind of pathetic  ;) :P

my tintop has a tilt n slide (i think thats what u call it).  im just interested to know if it makes the car significantly heavier or weaker really.

i would imagine the glass ones especially would be banned from rallying. incase you rolled.
i have heard people dont want sunroofs in comp cars due to weight and rigidity.

Mk1s with glass sunroofs are worth a lot less as the mod is not genuine and is irreversible. They do also tend to leak and rust if fitted badly. They look pants too and are best left to ford fiesta special editions!

Original sunroofs are still a weak spot on the rust front so the advantage of having one is often outweighed when it comes to value.

Nowt really to do with strength as few people track them anyway.

i knew there was a major reason behind the  anti sunroof thing.  i assume sunroofs became a 'must have' mod at some point and very few were un molested.   thanks for that Dubboy   ;)

I think the original steel sunroof looks good! As long as you keep your drain pipes clear then you should not really develop any rust problems if not already there. Shame can't say same about mine but is was an easy fix to re-do the metal drain tube! ;)
