Title: Greenlight Insurance - Forum Supporter - Introduction
Post by: jv on 19 July 2012, 16:37
Greenlight have now joined the site as a forum sponsor.

www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk 01277 376 000

As myself and others have regularly said in this section, what you need when insuring your VW is someone who knows what you are talking about! Modifications, agreed value, possible track day cover are all pretty much essential. Don't mess about with comparison sites that only deal with totally standard situations.

Forum members receive a discount with Greenlight - joining in on here does have it uses :)

For more information on Greenlight Insurance and the products we offer please see below:

Why try Greenlight
As a business we are genuinely different to most mainstream providers. Our staff and senior management are vehicle enthusiasts who own and run the types of cars that our customers drive, which helps to ensure we maintain a level of understanding beyond most everyday Insurance providers.

We were established as a genuine specialist vehicle Insurance provider and have a strong level of technical knowledge in respect of performance, modified, custom, classic and kit built vehicles.

Greenlight have a long standing pedigree and have been providing our specialist vehicle Insurance products to the performance, modified, classic, custom and kit car owner since 1996.

It’s safe to say we are not the usual ‘men in grey’.

What if my Car is modified?
Modifications are not a problem to us and will be covered under our modified car Insurance products upon a like for like replacement basis in the event of damage or theft.

Unlike most Insurance providers, a good proportion of our staff own and run the type of cars that we cover, meaning we have a decent understanding of the mentality and positive care of car that comes from people that take pride in the vehicle they drive.

For this very reason we particularly like to cover modified vehicle drivers, as our view is very much that if you are spending money to improve your vehicle it demonstrates that you keep your vehicle in good order and clearly care for your vehicle.

You CAN disclose all modifications and we can accommodate just about any enhancement (up to and including full roll cages and nitrous oxide).

Our underwriters offer ‘like for like’ replacement of modified parts for repairable instances and where possible, or an equivalent substitute part will be offered.

What cover features do you have?
Under comprehensive cover contracts we can offer the traditional cover levels that you are accustomed to, which includes features such as windscreen cover, audio cover, free European cover, legal expenses cover, no claims bonus protection, a courtesy car from the approved repairer network whilst your vehicle is in for repair and a repair guarantee for the work undertaken by them.

In addition to the traditional cover, several of our Underwriters offer additional features and if any of these are useful to you our staff will be able to explain them in further detail to you:

Trackday cover – provides cover to your vehicle for accident damage sustained as a result of using your vehicle upon a UK race track. This cover is available under some of our annual Insurance schemes as a pay per event option for customers that are covered with us.

Like for Like replacement of modified parts – individual after market vehicle enhancements that are are covered under our modified vehicle schemes will be replaced upon a like for like basis in the event that damage is sustained or a part is stolen. In the event that parts are obsolete we will work with you to source an appropriate replacement (usually the equivalent part that superseded the obsolete part), or look to provide a cash value to enable you to select an alternative.

Guaranteed total loss car hire – This is a policy cover option to keep you on the road in the event that your vehicle is stolen or written off as a result of an Insured incident. The hire car would be provided for up to 14 days.

Key cover – This optional feature is available to cover the cost of replacing your coded keys and locks in the event that your keys are lost or stolen, up to a cost of £1500. The cover can also extend to cover keys to your home in the event that your household keys are attached to the unique keyring provided.

Agreed Value - On highly modified vehicles we are able to offer Agreed Value polices. You will need to provide 6 photographs (front, back, left, right interior and engine bay) along with an estimate of the total modifications spend. We will then confirm a figure that we are prepared to Agree the Value at.

Should you decide to accept the policy on this basis you then know the exact amount you would receive in the event of a total loss claim.

-------------------------------------------

Basic acceptance criteria
Due to the type of vehicles we cover under our preferentially rated schemes being primarily performance or modified vehicles there are some acceptance requirements to qualify for these schemes. The underwriters require all drivers to:

1) Be aged 21 or over

2) Have held a full UK license for at least 2 years

3) Have 1 Years No Claims Bonus. (Company car, Second Car, Motortrade and commercial vehicle NCB are all acceptable)

4) There are some postcode sectors that due to our previous bad claims experience we are no longer able to cover. In the event we cannot cover your postcode sector we will try and recommend an alternative supplier.

What we can assure you is that we will always look to help each and every one of you, looking for the positive factors in every applicant to help source the best possible offer that we can from our range of available schemes.

Do you cover other models?

We are primarily here to cover performance we do have schemes available to cover an array of other performance car models for members if required to do so.

How can I get a quotation to see what you can do for me?
You can apply either online, or via the telephone depending upon your own personal preference.

Please call us on 01277 376000 for an instant quotation or complete an online quote application at www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk

Thanks for listening and we look forward to hearing from you. As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me a PM or post in this thread.

Kind regards
Neil

Neil, can you list the postcodes please, previous insurers on here say similar things and don't list areas, so it would be good if you can list these prior to people calling you up and possibly wasting both of your times.

Hi Guys

It will depend on the individual person as we have a number of different underwriters we deal with. Also if the policy is a second car/limited mileage classic type policy the postcode bandings are completely different.

It's probably best to drop me a PM and i can ask a couple of questions and confirm for sure but usually at least one of our underwriters will quote.

Yes we can definately offer a mirrored NCB policy carrying it over to your 2nd car. If you can cover less than 5k miles in the vehicle it will come back with a very competitive price.

If you wanted to call me at the office on 01277 376000 (Just ask for Neil) or drop me a PM with your contact number and i'll come back to you.

recieved a qoute last week for my insurance thinking it was due in April, recieved my qoute after filling the online application, no problems there, returned a missed call later that day and i literally had to stop what i was doing and ask for them to repeat the price as i couldnt believe it, i was over the moon with the declared Mods and policy details, safe to say i will not be taking out a qoute with other companies who saw fit to charge into 4 figure numbers for the insurance, sadly my insurance only runs out in july this year but garruanteed i will be coming back for a new qoute and have started spreading the news to other friends who own modified cars

I just got my renewal notice through from Sky Insurance, unfortunately it went up £50 from last year so I thought I would give Greenlight another go (I was with them before I went to Sky) I spoke to a top bloke called Neil and he managed to chase a few underwriters and get me a quote for £150 cheaper on the year and £50 cheaper on the excess. This is the first year I have owned the Golf and my insurance has actually gone down, I cannot tell you how happy I am. The guys and Greenlight are the friendliest people I have spoken to (had a good chat with Neil about his MK4 Golf) and they really do get you great deals. My cover includes any mods at no extra cost and only £50 for track day insurance.

If you haven’t already I would highly recommend giving Greenlight a call. I would just like to say Sky Insurance are also very good, but they just couldn’t match the offer Greenlight got me.

Unfortunately we normally require a minimum of 1yrs NCB on modified policies. We can do a mirrored NCB if you have your bonus on your main car.

Howver if you have never had cover in your name we wont be able to quote hence why we recommended you to Flux who would quote.

Thank you for the kind comments and maybe you could bear us in mind for next year.

Hi neil, heard good things about greenlight, but unfortunately was left a little disappointed, my 1st car was up for renewal, but you wasn't able to match or beat my current insurer renewal quote, I'm 31 with 3 ncb on the 1st car and 9 ncb on the second car, the fella who was giving me the quote mirrored the 9 ncb but still wasn't able to beat or match the quote, and the car in question was a mk3 golf TDI 90bhp!!! With afew simple mods done outside the car, lights, grill, wheels etc.... Nothing done to the engine.

Now I have my 2nd car renewal coming up, its a mk3 golf GT TDI German spec left hand drive 110bhp  with afew mods what are the chances you guys able to beat my current insurer on this car? or do I go with the response I got with the 1st car I tried to get with you.

Use both cars for social and domestic, and going to work one place, 15000 per year total, don't do track days or anything in that nature.

Kind regards
Naz

Neil,

Do you do a multi-car policy, as I'm contemplating a T4 camper to add to the fleet?

Also how do I go about the agreed value for my Mk2?

I've just moved my policy over to Greenlight this evening, after receiving a really competitive quote on Monday. I've had my Mk4 1.8T (AUM) since December 2012 and it's currently pretty much standard, but I've got a number of things planned for it - I've declared everything I can think of on my list of planned mods and I'm now paying a mere £8 more per month than I was with Swiftcover for my "standard" insurance. Considering I've got a stage 1 re-map, Milltek catback exhaust system, Forge DV008, silicone hoses/TIP, coilovers, alloys, etc. all declared to be done to the car at some point, I was really impressed with the price. £8 more per month for the freedom to do pretty much what I want with the car is great - definitely really impressed with the quote and how helpful, friendly and knowledgeable the guy I spoke to was (Will).

I'm also happy with the fact that you can declare any new mods (or anything you hadn't thought of when taking out the policy) mid-term and won't be charged for doing so - as long as it's nothing drastic like a massive new turbo there's no penalty. So thanks to a decent quote (compared to a few others that I tried on Monday evening) and the helpful reviews on this forum and others, I'm now on my way to modifying the GTI  Cheers Greenlight!

Lewy

Sorry I completely missed this post.

We can happily quote you for a T4 camper....Sounds like you're building up a nice little VW Fleet there :)

Agreed value will depend on what policy type/underwriter you are with at the moment. If you are with an insurer that offers agreed value its free of charge.

If you could PM me your MK2's reg number i'll check on our system and PM you back.

Ive had my policy out with greenlight now for 9 months now and they have been very helpful, ive moved house and changed car in the time ive been with them and it was no problem at all changing the details.
It did cost roughly £50 to change my car over but the premium didnt change which was good.
They were the cheapest insurance company i found by far but at the cost of owning a 'performance' vehicle
Certainly will be looking at a renewal price for april  hopefully will be a few notes cheaper with another year Ncb + the forum discount

Question- I got the renewal through and happy with that price, In the near future I may want to modify the car so is it best to just declare as and when, or start a modified policy and that covers everything ? how does it work

Hi Chris,

You can declare it as and when, with our policies you can add cosmetic modifications free of charge so coilovers, ARBs, strut braces, bucket seats.. all free to add.

If it is performance mods you are after then give me a call and I will give you a quote, they generally don't work out too expensive at all.
