CENTRAL LOCKING/REMOTE URGENT PLEASE
« on: 17 May 2003, 17:45 »
Ok, further to the post below I started to install an actuator in my drivers door. Sounds simple enough? No.
I took out the existing switch(vaccum)unit in the door and braced the new motor - everything fine.
OK, so now I want to hook up some power to the new actuator - I open up the existing 3 wire set up for the old switch - and presto, Im stuck!!!!

My Actuator had 5 wires.
Wires available in door - 3 .(reds, orange, orange and white I think)

So now I have no central locking and am really pissed off.
Please can I have some help.

PS. Tried to fit a stereo in the golf today also, wired up all the blocks etc. Guess what? Nothing, no power, nothing! Checked the fuses - ok. Any ideas? any one got a golf mk2 1991 wire diagram. I cant work out the wire colours/

You shouldn't need to interfere with the existing wiring at all.
Your control box for your remote locking should supply power to the motor. The motor then pulls the vaccuum unit down or up depending on whether you're locking or unlocking.

If you sit in the car and push the door lock plunger down, the rest of the car will lock. That motor that you are installing is doing the same thing......hence you must keep your original wiring intact.

As for your radio wiring, its always best if you can keep the OE black and brown connectors and purchase the relevant adapters from any motor factors.
Assumng you no longer have the OE connectors, you should find that:-
Red: Main 12V supply
Brown: Earth
Grey/Blue: Backgroung lighting

Do you want speakers too?

The power for the motor comes from your remote unit pack. I'm in chat if you want to discuss it.

I put mine behind the centre console.
Have you checked you're getting 12V at that red wire with the ignition switch on?

Drop into chat, it'll be a lot easier to discuss it.

right down the bottom, where you can see who is online. Go to the front page of the forum, you'll see a 'join chat' button.
