I’m going to have a play with wide angle on the RVC @Doc. Hopefully not too buried in the menus to find! 😁
EDIT: found it !! Wonder if OBD11 would be able to set it as default

Are you trying to suggest mk8’s have a bad reputation @Yusee?

@Herstman, you have the experience to know exactly what you do and don’t want when the 128 goes, hopefully you’ll find another peach of a 7.5, be it TCR or R.
It might be nice to have one of each on the drive rather than two R’s but if the right example comes up then you’d have to jump at a second R.

However, know impulsive me too well, and its my rational head that is saying no to a MK 8 R or maybe Clubsport (45) due to software issues, but I do really like the MK 8's and how everyone states they are a great drive intrigues also, and there is not a huge price differential between a well specced, low mileage MK 7.5 and 21-22 plate MK 8 so when go do the forecourt rounds, would not be surprised to see some shiny, bells and whistles MK 8 R catch my eye and throw all commonsense thought out of window (used to have similar problem to a pretty face, but wife soon put me straight! )

I put rubber Vacuum tube with a slice down the length of it on the edges of the parcel shelf and that cured my rattle from there.

Also check the spare wheel plastic nut is tight as that rattles when only slightly loose.

I’ve used Millers Nanodrive Motorsport 5W 40 for the past couple of years on the advice of local Indy. Also religiously change oil every 6 months.

Can't talk for the 2019 engine, but in my 2014 PP GTI I always used this;

https://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/FusionPDS.nsf/Files/C20C3254B16887B58025856D0016E9D5/$File/wepp-bpsmes.pdf

The LL seemed to offer a bit more bang per buck in terms of protection/cleaning properties, and it frequently came up in Costco at a decent price. Opie also do decent offers usually for a changing kit, however the quantity was an odd one (5.6L). I changed at 8-10k religiously and in my 7.5 years of ownership the engine has never had an issue. It met the 507 / 504 and old 503 spec as well.

Golf mk7 / 2019 GTI oil questions
« Last post by Big Col on 09 April 2024, 20:05 »
hi all,

Car registered march 2019, engine code DKTB, I'm planning on doing an interim DIY oil change, I'm old fashioned and 18K miles on the same oil just isnt right.
handbook says 508 or 504 spec oil

according to the history car has had 3 oil changes, only one change mentions the spec 0w20 - thats 508, correct?

508 seems to be rarer and £££'s compared to 504. So I'm going to put 504 in it.

Propaganda on the interweb suggests the 508 spec was only to eek a few more mpgs out of the engine.

Any advice or guidance much appreciated.
Colin.
