A word to the wise for Alpine iPod HUs!
« on: 19 November 2008, 16:51 »
The 4th gen iPod nano doesn't work 100% with the headunits, they don't charge when plugged in, the HU will still play it, but won't charge it.

Just so you know.

I contacted Alpine and they said there is but they don't know when, so for now it's to warn people who want a new nano and an Alpine HU aren't 100% compatible.

What I did instead was take the nano back and get a 120GB iPod Classic for an extra £30 :D

Another word of advice on Alpine HUs.

The 9880R and many others I believe usually don't turn off the iPod when you turn the engine off, unless you change the source, press pause or manually turn the iPod off yourself. That would mean your iPod will continue to play when you leave the car, resulting in a dead battery the next time you're there.

Now for me that's not such a big problem because I have 2 iPods, one for the car and one I personally use. However for those of you who only have the one for everything, Alpine will send you out a cable that connects between the HU and the iPod lead itself that's eliminates this problem.

I emailed them 2 days ago and got a speedy response, told them I bought it under a year ago and the guy asked for my address and sent it out, got it today :D

Cheers 88. Just so you're aware, I installed the cable they sent me and works a treat, no longer do I have to turn off the iPod from the HU or change source as it goes off with the HU now :)

Some do, I 'did' lol! I really wanted the nano because it's easier to hide away behind the glovebox itself, but I've gone with the Classic and it's mahoosive space lol!
