which oil?
« on: 31 October 2012, 17:24 »
I have recently purchased a GT Tdi 150pd which was registered in 2003.

I need to top up the oil but have no idea what oil is currently inside. Its been regularly serviced but I can't find which type of oil has been used on the paperwork.

I don't want to fcuk the engine by putting in the wrong type. what do you recommend?

Hope I don't sound too stupid!

Use the stuff VW made for it. Go to the dealers, it isn't even that dear. 10w-40 I think it is IIRC. Don't use any other oil. Simple.

Cheers mate, will phone them tomorrow. Is it worth buying the oil from them for the next service which I will give to my mechanic?

Ummm, suppose it wouldn't hurt. Unless it is a VW garage they may not use the correct stuff. Do it.

Considering it only takes an hour tops to swap the oil out and change the filter, I'd just get a bottle and filter from ECP and change the lot out. Peace of mind.
