Title: 1.9 TDI PD Limp mode ATD Engine *update*
Post by: hamps on 17 October 2012, 09:07
Hi guys, my golf keeps going into limp mode

It is not bringing the light on and if you switch off and restart its fine for a while!?

It is an auto 5 speed.

I have removed the inlet manifold and the turbo and done a full thorough clean with innotec turbo clean

which give it it's power back but now this.

when i scan it keeps coming up kickdown sensor, but kickdown works fine ???

Any ideas?

Thank you

Check all of your boost hoses, one has probably either split or comes loose under load resulting in overboost and then limp home mode.

Yes this is one of the first things I checked they are all good, I also fitted a new sensor in the intercooler and replaced all the bulkhead pipes with silicon jobbies, and I swapped all the N75 things etc with known working ones off a mates car i'm stumped!

Get down a scrappers that has a auto golf box, swap over sensors to see if it works or not. It may be working fine, but the ECU see's a lot more inputs than you do.

without trying to sound thick but how can it overboost when a hose has popped off? wouldnt that cause underboost

It won't register any boost, so it will keep the turbo spooling (in order to produce some as it cannot differentiate between a hole or the boost being used) to such a point as the ECU decides it is over boosting, then shut it all down to protect the engine.

Right an update

Got the code p1155 off of the ethos, manifold pressure sensor G71, so I have ordered a MAP sensor from the main stealers for tomorrow so fingers crossed

I changed the map sensor today, cleared the codes and 20 miles so far all good

So it got treated to new lower arms, drop links and a service

Lets hope it behaves itself now!
