Hi ! New to this forum so any advice would be much appreciated. So I traded in my motorcycle I had a Honda cb1000r and got myself for the 1st time a mk6 2009 vw golf gti ! Wow what a car to drive ! I’m looking to improve things with some subtle changes so if anyone has some advice as to where to start that be great! My 1st question is will a remap improve fuel economy? I’m very tempted to get this done first !
here’s a picture of my car

Thanks

Hi Wugga, you'd be better posting this into the dedicated MK6 section - https://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=75.0

By the looks of it, you are missing the engine cover and the battery cover. The highlighted section appears to be either broken or perhaps a previous owner has cut the intake up thinking they'll get better airflow. Either way if it were me, I'd replace that and the two covers. As for cleaning the engine bay, that's up to you. Personally I would as it does look rather unloved. Do a search in the detailing section for tips or have a look at cleanyourcar.com for engine bay cleaning products. I wouldn't go too fanatical with it, just a tidy honest look.

Good luck and welcome to the forum

Sorry I have the battery cover and the engine cover ( I’d removed them when I took the picture) the bit you mentioned what would it be called is it just an intake bracket pipe or does it have a specific name as I’ll order a new one ? I have arranged for the engine and bay to be cleaned on Thursday morning his week so I’ll post a before and after picture , Also thanks for the reply and advice much appreciated !

No problem!

Hopefully somewhere on it there will be the part number (unless it was on the missing section). I'd go to a main dealer parts department and they can look it up from your chassis number. They should be able to show you what it should look like on screen so you'll know 100% if it needs replacing or not. You might be able to pick up a good used one given how many people replace the intakes with aftermarket kit.
