Easy but shocking that you have to retrofit it

Would of been easier for one of the biggest car manufacturers on the planet to do this in the first place instead of me having to pi55 about with it.

Lashing out 40K for it to end in a DIY job, just as well I won't be opening the bonnet in the first place.

I've only opened the bonnet on my MK7.5 twice since I've had it and that's to top up the washer fluid, my engineering skills end there.

Nice thanks, the lack of bonnet strut had ruled the MK8 out for me. Not that I plan to get rid of the MK7 any time soon, but at least I know I can get a MK8 when the time comes.

So if you're not going to use it, why are you bothered?

While it is blatant cost cutting, honestly there's too much made of it. Average owner opens the bonnet 3 times a year I'd say.

I didn't say I was bothered but why are you bothered that I might be bothered?

Now you've mentioned it; I'd be bothered for the forty thousand pound cost and the the fact that the part has got the necessary infrastructure in place to put a gas strut in place instead of substituting it for a cheaper alternative but honestly I'm not bothered now I've thought even more about it.
Have a nice day.

I installed the gas bonnet on my Golf 8 only to remove it.I found out that it was hitting on the coolant tank. I was sent different parts from Dark Ice Design but none of it helped.
Here is a video i made that shows what happens when i close the boot:

You make a great point here, I'd also imagine warranty claims potentially jeopardised if there is evidence of tinkering under the bonnet, especially if it results in parts impacting on other parts. Such a simple thing could be used against you, such is the world we live in.

That’s a real shame. Thanks for the video. I wonder if all the struts do this?
