Hi All,

I need to replace the Fuel Pump Relay on my Mk3 Golf Gti.

I've got the part ready (relay 167) (£5!!), but could do with some assistance on how to replace, or more importantly, how to get into the relay's without damaging anything!

Can anyone advise me please! I've been told its the bottom right of the relay's - yes / no??

Thanks in advance,

Lewis

Have you got a Haynes Manual or the owners manual? Pretty sure it tells you there, I'll have a look after work.

Out of curiosity, why are you replacing it? Is it the pump that's not working or the gauge on the dial cluster? The reason I ask is my pump works fine but the dial is tempramental to say the least & was wondering if there was another problem that didn't resort in replacing the pump/sender unit!

Its really easy to do.

- Pop open the fuse box.
- Slide out the back cover underneath
- At the base you will see a hook that the fuses are sitting on, just lift it off and it should come down quite easy.
- Pick the relay you want out and give it a tug.
- New one goes in the same way, just keep you fingers of the connections so you dont get them greasey

Put it back together in the reverse order and Bingo your done!!

Magic, thanks for you help folks!

FAO - eightyeightmph, I had the AA out last night, and they said to start with replacing this, as the Fuel Pump was kicking in when ignition turned (had tried replacing the pump)

Will let you know how I get on!

Cheers.

It's a lot easier to get the fuse box out with the trim under the steering wheel removed, only a few screws. Each side of the fuse box is held in place with two white clips, you need to pop both of them off then the whole fusebox lifts up and over metal hooks either side, the relays are at the top of the fusebox, just pull out the old one and push the new one in
