Before you take the head off, it would be a good idea to carry out a compression check. That will give you a good idea on just how worn the engine actually is and whether you need to do the bottom end. It would be criminal to pay all that money and waste all that time if there is nothing wrong with it. As long as the engine has been looked after they should go into a really high mileage before requiring rebore.

The advice i have been given has helped me loads, i will have a compression check sorted out and if the botom end doesn't require any work i might just treat myself to modified cylinder with the money i will have saved!
