Maps Update Discovery Pro Query
« on: 29 January 2025, 22:03 »
Evening all,

Apologies if this has been asked and answered previously, but I can't find a thread on the search.

So today, I picked up my new car, and it's now safely home, and I'm very pleased....the wife hates it, but thats good for me, coz she won't wanna drive it pmsl...

Reading all the gumpf now, to familairise myself with it's features and systems blah blah blah.

Now..

Maps in the car are 2016-2017

So the latest maps, have been downloaded and unzipped. I have both MIB1 & MIB2 and the metainfo txt too, in the unzipped folder.

The VW SD card is only 15gb, and these maps combined are 17.79gb.

No free space.

My question is - Do I need to install both the MIB files, or can I just drag and drop the MIB2, as it's a 2016 system?

If I need a bigger card, then no big deal, but will the system accept a non-VW card?

As I say, I couldn't find a definative answer either here or YT.

Cheers

Wayne

I think you need a 32GB card. As previous post somewhere, the SatNavWorld SD Europe V20 2025 card arrived yesterday and I’ll swap it over for my original card over the next day or so. I’ll let you know how I get on, if it works, £49 well spent to avoid the messing about, if not I’ll get my money back.

Removed old card (followed instructions in manual), inserted new, engine switched on - Sat Nav fired up no issues - can now see local road that opened in 2023, well worth the £49 IMO.

So i phoned VW today and spoke about the best way to do this. They advised that any old 32gb card would be ok, and just to dowwnload and put it, onto the card. The car apparently would read it, because their cards aren't anything special.

Did that...Nope!

Now it's worth adding that I messed up a bit, and downloaded the wrong maps. My system is the Discovery Media and not the Pro, from checking it's part number.

I now understand why the maps wouldn't work. I had downloaded PRO maps and not MEDIA maps.

So downloaded again, for the MEDIA options, but the Region 5 bundle, as I wanted Germany too.

I took the factory card out, backed it up first and then wiped it.

Dragged the maps, onto that and voila.....I have 2024/2025 maps.

Happy days..

You had me all excited when you said you had a 2024/25 map update - all I can see on the VW update page are still showing the maps from 27/11/2023.

Well, they must be, because before I updated them, they were 2016/2017 and after updating them, they show ECE 24/25 now.

Now, I'm assuming they're the most up to date maps, given the numbers.
