Golf mk8 / Re: Cupra Leon v Mk8.5 GTi

I had a MK3 Leon Cupra around ten years ago when they first came out (EA888), it was really cheap to buy and gave the Golf R at the time a good run for its money. Even the seats, and cabin quality were really good. I do miss it sometimes, but doesn’t have the heritage or kudos of a Golf GTi.

They look spot on, does anybody here know of an acceptable and safe method for removing the centre caps without removing the wheels from the car? I think I know the answer, but I have a set of VW logo dynamic caps that were already on my previous mk8 when I bought it, and intend to fit them at some point.

If you have an old satnav with the window suction mount, the mount is good at removing centre caps from wheels. Mount the suction part of the satnav mount to the centre cap, lock it on and then pull gently.

I’ve seen small suction cap pullers for sale that are described as alloy wheel centre cap removal tools. I’ve no idea if they work (the one in the YouTube video at the link below seems to). but they’re inexpensive at around £5-£6 so you won’t lose a fortune if they don’t work.

Try an internet search on ‘alloy wheel centre cap removal tool’ or similar search.

Just had a look on that site, some nice little thing on there 👍
My key cover definitely not genuine, Mrs got it from Amazon but as I said great fit and feels like it will last. Few different colours she said.

That looks great. Where can I find one. Currently have the generic VW blue silicone cover but a GTI one would be better.

It’s actually a genuine VW accessory. It’s a nice fit and feel. Less bulky and less rubbery than covers I had on previously. I bought it from here - https://shop.ahw-shop.de/original-vw-schluesselcover-gti-zuendschluessel-blende-cover-schwarz-5h0087012041?c=0

If you have a decent jack and tools etc, just remove the wheels. Definitely don’t attempt to lever them off.

I looked at and test drove the Cupra Leon and the focus ST back when I still had my F40 M135i, both were great, but I’m a sucker for a GTI, just kept being pulled back to one.

Mine started blowing on fan level 4 on started up. Eventually sorted it by choosing auto in the climate menu and it offers the choice of fan speed of low, medium and high. Can post pics tomorrow if that helps

Ah yes, that will be it, you’ve reminded me of this happening in my old mk8, there are indeed 3 grades of blower intensity while using auto climate.
