Title: 1.6 Gli cab
Post by: richard ellison on 16 November 2005, 13:59
is my 1980 1.6 gli golf injection or carb?

just been speaking to TSR about an engine upgrade  turns out if its carb the replacement 1.8/1.9/2.0 will look identical from first glance

My mates GLi was injection, it was a detuned version of the GTi engine  :nerd:

I'm sure that the GLi is the exact same engine as the 1.6 GTI mk1 engine and its just that the early cabbys were badged as GLi.

My old GLi was 1.6 fuel injected. I think GLi was the term before GTi.

Have you got any pics of under the hood? Should be able to tell you if it's carb or injection straight away

And here comes the Expert guys - I've had several Gli and they are all Injections 1.6 & 1.8.

I think TSR have a GL cab which is the carb version. unless someone has done a conversion from injection to carb on a Gli - which is not VAG spec then.

And yes the Gli come before the GTI versions

Gli was from 79-83.

You guys were right, it is an injection. Just makes me weary of a conversion when they dont even know if my car is injection or not!

Being looked at in a few weeks for engine diagnostics.. fingers crossed wont be too painful.

Foe the meantime it has started to act like a kangaroo and  jump/splutter when I put the accelrator down occasionally. makes me think the fuel injector is messed up or something

Not that I know anything at all about GLi's or cabbys in general, but TSR know what they're doing. It might just be that if _you_ didn't know what it was they weren't going to say it's one type or another... If it's from '83, someone coulda changed it by now anyhow!!

Property needs a good service and timing mate. My Gli was like that when I first got it and ended up putting new injectors in.
