Trying to do a bit more work on my engine side of things now as I've always mainly focused on the looks of my cars mainly.
When I got the car the owner had done some bits already. All I know is that the car has got a dump valve,k&n panel filter, sports cat,and a remap, and different silicone hoses.
The car has always ran where but just want to know where i stand so i can keep going with it.
I don't know too much and I've been trying to do my research online but looks like it's had the dump valve relocated. And looks like the diverter valve is missing?
Any of you experts out there can you see from the pics what work has been done? Also recently I've noticed that the dump valve seems quieter and the car feels like it's down on power. When I squeeze the hose from the air box there's a hissing sound. I don't know where it's coming from?

Theyve but a dump valve on inplace of the recurce valve. Personally id get a recerc valve.
If its leaking air when you squeeze the intake id be looking at where theyve blankex the recirc off first.
The aum engine apparently doesnt take power well.
Its already got a ko3s so if you get it running right. Replace all vac hoses with silicone to elimenate any split vac lines then get it mapped

Any reason why you think the aum doesn't take power well as there is a few running over 350bhp and they can have launch control and a few other features mapped in that the agu can't due to older ecu  I would also ditch that baileys d/v as you said for a standard item or forge
-
Yeah i think im going to upgrade all hoses to silicone. Got a fuel smell in the cabin when air con is on but i cant find any leaks...
So you would say get the dump valve back into the standard position up top with a recirc valve?
Will i have to replace the big blue hoses for this? Not sure what parts i would need.
-
Having it on the cold side of the cooler gives you a crisper noise. Id leave it there and get some 22mm silicone hose to go the intake pipe to the turbo. Id check if its 22mm it might be a little bigger.
Then just leave the blanking plug in the turbo outlet.
-
Have you got a picture of the exact bit areas you mean. Still learning haha.
-
Blue pipe going into the turbo just below the n75 valve and next to the puk.
Looks in your picture to be a copper bung. Thats where a recirc valve would be normally.
Thats where you need to put a pipe into from the cold side.
-
Right i've got you. Thanks
-
Personally I would completely lose that baileys dump valve and reatore the oem location and install a Forge 007/008P. If your already re-mapped id also use the yellow spring if stage 1.
You already have silicone boost hoses, and the ones you have fitted are from creation motorsports I used to have the same ones on my 1.8t when I owned it.
The air leak you are hearing is ether most likely where the previous owner has attempted to blank off the old DV locations and it has failed, or the TIP (turbo inlet pipe, the big blue one on the airbox) the bottom of that pipe connects directly to the turbo, it may have come slightly lose and not be seated correctly (this happened to mine)
Personally I would restore how it is meant to be setup.
As for the fuel smell, this also happened to mine but i found that my fuel line (near the coolant bottle) had a slight split in it.
-
Thanks for the info. What's a yellow spring? And what's best 007 or 008?
Sorted the fuel smell. One of the lines wasn't pushed in enough near the coolant. Will I need much additional hosing to go back to one setup.

A standard d/v will do
-
The Forge 007p was the "original" upgrade for a recirculating turbo engine like the 1.8t. Extremely popular with the 1.8t crowd - I've had one fitted for about 8 years and never had a single issue. The 008 is Forge's recent updated version to the 007 - not sure what the difference is, im assuming they've improved the material or something but tbh there was nothing wrong with the 007 however you may only be able to get the 008 now as it supersedes the 007?
As for spring colour the standard spring they come with is green, then yellow and red increasing in stiffness. Generally the more boost you're running the stiffer the spring you need to fit. Again I've still got the green spring in mine and I'm stage 2 Revo with 230bhp, no issues whatsoever and was advised by the tuner to stick with green.
-
Right I see. Yeah just checked it out online, looks like a good bit of kit.
So for fitting...
So forge 008 into where the bung is now. Then I need some of that standard s piping to go from the 008 to where that blanking plate is at the moment. On the cold side closest to the air box then there should be a vacuum hose that goes into the top of the 008? Where does the other end of that hose come from?
-
On picture 5 where I have the blanking plate. What is the name of the original pipe that would of gone from here over to the recirc valve? And is there a silicone one available if so. Will have to get one for the install.
-
The hose in pic 5 that is blanked off is a formed piece (it wanders around like a bit of spaghetti to avoid various bits and bobs). A silicone version is available and forms part of the 5-piece boost hose kits you can get from Forge, Samco, eBay etc.
The vacuum hose at the top of the DV is 4mm ID but a common mod if to simplify the vacuum system and remove a lot of the junk. There's a guide on here I believe and once done it runs straight to a vacuum port on the inlet manifold.
-
Dv to inlet
Inlet to fpr
While your blanking stuff off you can simplify the breather sytem and keep the oils out the inlet manifold by blanking it off under the inlet and then blank the tb vac off to the charcole canister i think...
You need to leave the n249 valve plugges in but just dont have a vac hose to it
-
What's this guide called? Is it the N249 bypass?
Also any benefits to fitting the 007/8 down where it is at the moment?
It does the oem spot win.
I only ask as forge do a relocation kit.
-
Yeah there's the N249 bypass/PCV simplification guide - generally you would also fit a catch can while you're at it.
As for DV relocation to the "cold side" (like where yours is currently) I have no personal experience but I think people reckon it gives a crisper sound or something. How true the claims are of other benefits I have no idea. Think most people stick with and updated 007/008 valve in the OEM location.
-
Ok I will look at doing that too. What does the catch can do?
Yeah just got me thinking as I've got half he piping why not give it a try,but we will see. Going to order the 008 today.
And just to confirm the small "spaghetti" like hose that goes into the top of the 008. Where does the other end go? Is that to do with the n249 then.
Just trying to picture it without looking at my car engine. Think it's the same hose that at the moment is coming from my dump valve in its current position.
Just wondering if I need to order up any additional hosing for the install and movement to oem place.
-
No the "spaghetti" type hose I was referring to goes from the metal 90deg hardpipe that is blanked off in your engine at the moment to the side of the DV. The other large port on the DV fits downwards into the TIP (inlet pipe after the MAF that goes down the back of the engine to the turbo). The small nipple on the tip of your DV goes to the inlet manifold as per Lemskis post above.
Hope that makes sense? I can maybe get a photo of two for you later this week?
-
Oh I got confused by "spaghetti " pipe as the small one that goes into the top of the nipple of the dump valve. Makes sense now.
I'm happy where everything needs to go now apart from just need to see a pic of where that small one goes from the nipple to the inlet manifold. I should be able to reuse that thin hose that is on the nipple of my current dump valve at the moment.
I've ordered the 008 and 3m of silicone hosing. In case I need spare etc.
I need to get that OEM pipe that goes into the blank charge pipe to the side of the DV.

These are pictures of my old bay, might help you with locations etc,

Very nice mate! Those silver braided hoses you have on the left side near the coolant. I was looking at black braided ones on eBay to replace those pipes but wasn't sure what size they are?
Been looking at induction kits. Saw the ram air one. I've got a pipercross panel filter at the moment.

I had that RAM custom made, wasn't checp but was assured it wouldn't heat soak but I am not convinced it didn't tbh.
I cannot remmeber the size on the braided lines sorry pal, I bought them 2nd hand.
-
Yeah was gonna say it looks different to the ones for sale.
Oh no worries, ill have to measure.
-
Under neath the inlet on the opposite side to the throttle body youll feel where two vac lines go. One of the should go to youve dumpvalve
-
Thanks!
-
One last thing so i can ask TSP for the pipe, whats the name of the pipe that usually goes from here to the recirc valve 008. 008 has arrived but cant fit without that pipe!

Ricerc pipe to turbo outlet should get you the correct one
-
Whizzed down my local breakers and grabbed one.
008 all fitted now with into the OEM position. Also found out i had a tear in the small blue 3mm vaccum hose so sorted that too. I thought i had heard a faint hissing.
Going to take the car for a spin and see how it feels.
Thanks for the help guys. Next i will do the N249 bypass and been looking at the SAI delete but heard mixed things about that one...
-
Good stuff! I did the SAI delete very recently, there's a thread on it. Other than the engine management light coming on every so often (which I clear with a handheld code reader) I've had no issues at all.
-
Cool, yeah i've got a hand fault code reader that i could clear the code. Seems annoying to keep doing that though.
I like the idea of freeing up some space in the bay though. Ive ordered a blanking plate that should come today.
Just worried about MOT's and if it decides to act funny.
-
Yeah I was worried for the same reason but I'm sure a few people came back in my thread about the whole SAI delete and said they'd been through the MOT no problem with sports cats and everything.
Apparently the CEL can affect fuel trims but the warning light itself is currently only an advisory, not a fail as I was assuming, and people tend to say clear it in the car park before the test for the sake of 2 mins ;-)
-
I see what you mean. Do you have a link to this thread on it?
-
Yup;
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=278502.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=278502.0)
I've got a few bits to add as the story goes on. There's a few other threads on the matter across various forums too, I was just trying to capture everything in one place before I went ahead and made the change but hopefully it will help other people out too.
-
You could always have the sai deleted from the map
-
^This. I need to ring the local tuner out as I'm not sure it can be deleted from a Revo map? But yes, by far the best solution!
-
Thanks ill check out the thread.
Do you think an induction kit offers much more than a upgraded panel filter?
-
I prefere a panel filter. With the bottom smoothed out in the box and a good cold airfeex to it.
Its all preference and noise
