At the end of the day mine will not be replacing a family car im still keeping my mk6 as my daily driver/commuter/winter car. The cayman will be a fine weather weekend and summer use commuter car.
I tried many far faster cars but as I rearly use the 210bhp of the GTI I could never see me using 550bhp+
A R420 sounds ok in theory but I just simply would not use its power. I find 4WD boring. I also bet real world mpg will be terrible in it.
The cayman made me smile at reasonable speeds and had more than enough power to be fun. 0-60 and POWER! Isn't everything imo.
I'm sure the R420 will attract the boy/girl racer and attact the Ford/Vauxhall/Renault crowd to VW I wish VW all the best with it. To me the mk7 had started the move to this crowd with its neon lights and glitzy bits. Something the GTIs never had in its history until now unlike its rivals. This imo is changing the VW sport models demographic which seems true reading GTI & R forums. I keep thinking of the old GTI advert from the 80s with a red Mk2 GTI sitting at the lights next to a white Astra GTE16V the asta owner gripping the wheel wanting a race unlike the GTI driver. I feel its now the GTI/R/R420 owner IS the astra driver
