Illyun, any details on the 3M covering?
This is something that may be of interest to me.
Thanks

+ 1 Illyun, I would also be interested in knowing the details and costings for the 3m covering. Just gave mine a quick wash and noticed there's a small bloody scratch/chip on the lower part of my passenger front door  So annoying things like that when you do your best to be careful and always keep your car as clean.

Thanks MAW73

If you are in Scotland, Defendall in Perth do it.
They are at Tinthaus, if you know where that is...or the morgan dealership - all the same company.

They did my 911 - half the front wings, half the front cover, full front bumper/spoiler, sills, rear arches and behind all wheels.
Not cheap mind, at £1000-1200 but no stonechips.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Perth is only 45 mins away.

Needs some serious looking into.  4No chips now.  Two on bonnet (large), one on A Pillar, one on near side rear wheel arch.
However, if I stop hand washing/polishing/admiring close up, I might stop spotting them.....

That's half the probelm, we all love our golfs so much you can't help but notice notice these blemishes when your cleaning you car like mad every other day. With my car being white, I'm constantly cleaning it as soon as theres a spot of dirt on it (God knows what I'll be like in the winter).

Darren had a neat protective device on the front of his mk5.

Wonder if they do something similar for the mk6, I believe it was a leather protection jacket that slipped over the front edge of the bonnet, looked pretty neat and would probably do the job.

You're on about a bonnet bra.  I wouldn't advise it.  It doesn't look bad, but if you don't take it off every week and give it a rinse - and the paintwork underneath - it rubs and causes fine scratches with all the grit and dust that accumulates underneath.  I had this for one of my earlier Mk5 GTIs and noticed this problem.  It was much worse with the Mk2 car bra which kept flapping over 40mph.

Ummm.. cost is about 2000 Riyals    That is around 330 pounds.  I am buying my Mk6 in Saudi as I'm an expat     However, in the UK I had my Ed30 done by a company called Rhino Protect which went bust a year later.  They applied a film called 'Venture Shield' - google it - and they were adament that it was better than 3M as 3M caused issues on red and similar coloured cars with shade difference after a few years.  This was due to 3M not being fully transparent to UV Light.  3M claim that their products are state-of-the-art, but if I had a choice- especially in Saudi where it is sunny all the time -I would have gotten Venture Shield as its been excellent on the Ed30.

As it is, I am getting a white Mk6 so not much of an issue for me.  The Ed30 cost 475 pounds which included rear bumper - the number of scratches that has saved is incredible - wings, mirror housing on both sides, full front bumper and the complete bonnet.  I would have paid 400 if I had only covered the leading edge of the bonnet, but I thought I should do the whole thing.

These guys cost £399 for a venture sheild full body protection..... That seem's quite reasonable to me. I imagined it would have cost 3 x that. I wish I had got that done on mine when I picked it up, especially as I've picked up a few chips in the last few months

I've had my car toughsealed and it is great protection against UV light, chemical rain, bird droppings etc. Really brings the colour out also.

Hope this helps.

What I had noticed with protective coverings (it was possibly 3M) especially on white cars is that the edges tend to go yellow and there was a dull effect on the paintwork on darker coloured cars. Metallic colours seemed to lose their sheen.
Happy reading.
