Diagnostic fault code 17978

Had my MK3 chucked on the diagnostic machine, and a fault code ?17978? came up, but the bloke at the garage didn?t know what it was, anybody have any ideas??

Why dont you give your local VAG a ring and ask them. They'll probably charge you tho.

Only codes I have access to are 4 figure numbers.  :(

looking on the web this looks likely

"17978 engine control module blocked by immobilizer 35 - 00--"

you need to run a diag on the immobilizer, to see what is wrong there

Your right, it is to do with a immobirlizer fault, but the garage bloke said not to worry about it, has the car starts okay.

just out of interest, which site did you look at to get the descriptions for the fault codes??

just googled for it . I reckon im gonna buy VAG COM , i cant seem to find a cheap lead anywhere

also have you thought it may have something to do with your ABS problem  ?
